This is one of what I call 'End Of The Day' images...I do piles of these, and usually I don't post them...I'm violating the norm here, because I think this might come in handy for people making textures or surface decorations...
Here's the process...
:b2: I made the 'gold' object you see...
:b2: I 'grabbed' the Alpha...
:b2: I created a Stencil from it...Then I created a tiled stencil with Daves' Tiler.
:b2: I painted through the Stencil...
:b2: I inverted the Stencil, and painted the background...
:b2: I added the tool, with snapshot, and move...

I think you might want to check this process out, because I think it has a lot of possibilities... ;)

Oh, and here's a detail of the original object, done with mask and offset on a 3D Circle...

thnx also for the info, SC...the different colors you used reminded me that these individual pieces could be broaches, or used as insignias or different ranks......nice idea....end of the day images are kewl sometimes......and this is one of those times...thnx again for chosing to break your rules and share this with us...
