howdy folks. just another beta tester out for a stroll. I was making a base head in Mirai for a thread on my forum and just started playing around with it in zbrush.

Ear!! That's some excellent work my friend!
I assume there's a displacement map going on there... cos that's one lo-res poly head you got goin on there....
How many polygons are there? 100? As opposed to my recent 107 thousand or whatever for a similar kind of sculpture!!!!????
How does it work? How can you make something look so detailed but only have few polygons?

It appears he has a normal map, or maybe even a bump map applied to the lower polygon geometry. Just looking at the topology, there isn't any polygons where some of the detail is, so I'm assuming he didn't make all that detail from such a low poly head. Of course, I don't know how the beta works, so I could be 100% wrong.
I have a question for you Bay. When the Return of the King is finally released, will you be able to show all the work you did on Gollum? I'm sure there are many people who would like to see that.
But back on topic. Why is it you guys are all teasing us with this amazing Beta Program artwork? Are you being paid to hype the new Zbrush up? LOL Because if not, then you should be!
Excellent work. I especially like the Teal'c scowl from Stargate Sg-1.

Very nice.
It seems that all the beta testers are building their initial meshes in other modeling apps. Is this just because of familliarity with those other apps or is it that it is too difficult to get correct edge loops in ZB. I was kind of hoping the new version would allow that kind of control of the mesh.

Oh to "doodle" like you sir!!
Do do that voodoo that you do so well!!
Out of curiosity, how many beta testers are there strolling around?
Come and live in my cupboard and teach me all you know. I'll even give you sweeties.

Right now he could be the King of Siam or even the guy who made Gollum and I wouldn't care. I just want to get my hands on the next version of ZBrush ;) :p

Thanks for showing this image. I look forward to many more. Having just seen the book of `The art of the two towers` and the section about Golum, it became even more clear to me where ZBrush could fit into the work flow. As a sculpey modeler I like to see ultra detailed models with loads or features and character. To be able to do it in digitsl 3D and cut out a chunk of the middle workload will be a blessing to some and a curse to the unemployed clay modelers.

Beautiful work. That's all I can say, knowing nothing of modelling.
More specific information about new ZBrush features will be posted as it becomes available :)

thanks for the kind words folks. I hope to be able to show more of the gollum stuff after the movie comes out if possible, but I make no promises.
no, I'm not being paid to hype zbrush. they are just doing a very good job at creating some wonderfull artists tools and I wanted to tip my hat.
