Heres the latest update. I wasn't happy with the arm I had in place last time. And after repositioning it, remodelling it, I really couldnt get the perspective right.
So I decided to change the scene and have him kneeling down, arms behind his back.
I plan to put him in shackles also.
Would anyone have any tips on how to model a chain? I want to have a chain going from ankle to ankle. I presume a chain is extremily hard to model :(
As always suggestions / comments are welcome
P.S; No, this is not a poser model damnit! hehehe

Very nice, the expression matches the entire chained-up theme. I'm sure someone will give you a z-script on chains, Ive seen them in plenty of people's work.

Thanks guys :)
I've just added arms too! ;) you'll see them in the next picture. I just didn't want you to think I forgot. You can't see much of them, because they go behind his back.
And suggestions for future updates?
lets see... I think there is something a little strange about the transition between the legs and the body, but Im not sure exactly what... I would say definately get the chains made and then go for the backround/enviroment. It might be cool if there were various accessories on a wall behind him. Like his chains could attack to it, and there could be loops and whips and stuff for torturing people. Of course maybe thats just my sick little mind ;)

Then we both have sick minds ;) You read my mind like a book then... lol.

Ok, heres the update... with arms, and leg shackles.
I resolved my issue with the chain, by using the 3dring tool, doing a few simply modifiers on them, and linking them together. Turned out quite effective I think.

Well, you posted just a little after me. I just had finished a simple chain script. Oh well, Ill still post it in case someone else needs help.
PS: i hope the script works cause i pressed Alt+Tab to check back to something. Does that mess it up?

Heres the latest update. Partial background added, still alot more detail to be done though.
I opted for a different background than previously discussed. I trialed both ideas, this one seemed to just have that 'look' that grew on me. Tell me what you think guys, as usual, comments and future suggestions are always welcome.

loving it.....
He has no balls.
I mean the iron ones that go with shackles, you dirty minded fiends!
Nice work on the filthy wall, though.

Fasinating! You certainly put the 'dark' in
Darklock. However, other than worrying about your psyche, I must tell you I am in awe of your work. The modeling, the textures,
the painting...wonderful. The bg works very well too. :tu:
P.S. Thanks for the Chain Script.
Calibaan! wow! this one rocks man! really nice work, and i see the evolution of the project too. Fantastic! want to see more from you man =)))
:tu:  :tu:
kisss
Its getting even better! The choice of backround is definately good. However, the transition between the torso and the legs still seems a bit messed up, although maybe its just me :p

I looked at this again...without sounding too vulgar...I think the thing that is making the transition a bit off is the fact that we have no demonic genitalia....so model him a big ole wee wee...I personally dont think that would be out of place for this image...and would definitely enhance it in my honest opinion :tu: :tu: :tu:

heh, I noticed how no one else commented on it this time apart from you guys =)
Anyway, for those of you who are interested Judging from the posts here, not many; which is a shame.... Here is the latest update.
No, its not finished; however I did sign my name, as it was getting close to completion as a safegaurd.
As always, comments and suggestions are more than welcome.
And Ron, him not have genialia could possibly 'add' to this image, hell he's not suppose to have eyes ;) Although, I will think about it ;) You may have a point... hmmm

Funny you say that ;) The intitial idea was to have the POV looking down at him, while he was standing, arms by the side.
I trialed it and tested it, but it really didn't look as good as I thought it could.
All of a sudden, this idea came into my head, I trialed it, worked out better than the previous idea, so it stuck :)
What an expression on the gremlins face! I like the way you created the rocky background, any tips?? :)
Caliban Tiresias Darklock

Thanks grub.
For the rocky background. I roughly edited the sphere 3D tool, then basically just went nuts with it. Placeing them all over th place, slightly changed them in edit mode, and bringing them forwards or backwards into the scene.
The material I used was "Toy Plastic"
The texture I used is here....
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1019307529aig.jpg
Of course, I opened that texture up in photoshop, created a new document 3000 x 3000, and cut and pasted that dirt.jpg, one after the other, untill I had a 3000 x 3000 texture file in psd format.
However that files was 24MB, far too big to upload unfortunatley
After that was done, I baked the layer. Then took the fiber brush, with the density down, grooming up.... and carefully went over the rocks with a dark green.
After that, I chose a slightly lighter green and added 'highlights' to the moss where I thought they were needed.
For the render, a very very small amount of fog is added, with a very short depth cue.

This is coming along nicely Cal. I know you weren't intending to put eyes in but have you thought about maybe putting in blind eyes? They can be whitened out and bloodshot...I think it would make the figure look even more miserable.

Hey Mentat, thats a fantastic idea!! Thankyou so much, I was in a slump with it, not sure what to do next, you've just answered my question ;) Thank you.
I'm just not that comfortable on my eyes yet. I get them into photoshop, and I'm lost. I'll see what I can come up with in the next day or two.

Ok this is the last update I think guys. I'm happy with it so I think i'm done.
I just tweaked some certain areas in Zbrush, added dull simple eyes, which I think work pretty effectivly. As always comments area welcome

Hi Cal,
Cool cool cool...
You zoomed past so many people in such little time, GREAT WORK !!! :D
ps. I haven't been around, hence no comments till now ;)
Excellent work! You've come a very long way in almost no time at all! The modeling is excellent, the texturing is great, and the scene is chalk full of great little details. This is a remarkable piece.
Great job!! The only thing i would add would be some cloth that covered up his no no spots... this would help by covering up where his legs meet at.
Awesome job and i absolutely love it!!!!

looking great Cal...give a thin bit of highlight on the ears, (still needs a swinging johnson muhahahah) and the knees are a bit jaggy to me...maybe a slight blur on them...and I dont know how to do it, really, but maybe a little sweat and moisture here and there...hmmmm...these are just thoughts to an excellant image that can stand on its own right now....keep up the great work on this piece :tu: :tu: :tu:

Thankyou for your kind comments. However I still think there is a lot of room for improvment with my technique. Hopefully my next image will show it :)

Hi Caliban,
Interesting image, I don't know if I should feel sorry for this Gremlin - if he's a victim or if he who would release him would be the victim ;) Nice translucency on the chest.

Wow! the modelling on this is unreal, excellent work. :)
I think my favourite parts are his feet, very well realised. :tu: :tu:
Keep up the good work and don't worry about the wedding tackle, he could have been in some bizzare skiing accident or something..... ;)
