View Full Version : Lips...
Ivebeen trying to figure out what I need the most improvement on in my drawings, and practice it. This is my attempt at lips. In my opinion it came out pretty good, but definately not perfect. Anyway I would REALLY like any tips anyone has on making lips. Also I tried to texture it, but I realized that I couldnt find a suitable color and was just ruining the drawing so Im leaving it like this.

Those lips are looking pretty good to me Gerlon, I would maybe make the bottom lip a little fuller. :)

Tips on lips eh?
This is probably not what you're after I suppose you want to model them straight on. But here is a super quick way to get a basic lip shape for further modelling made from a ring.

Great lips :)
I'm not sure about others but my technique is to draw them on using a very low amount of ZADD.
Then mask them, inverse, and inflate using the deformer palette.
Once that is done, I just use the move / edit tool to position them correctly, then use slightly more ZADD to give them a nicer shape.

Hi Gerlon,
You've the beginning of a nice set of lips. Although I've not created many, some suggestions would include: as Caliban says -build them up with a low ZAdd setting. After I have a minimum shape of the lips I complete them using Move instead of Add - particularly for the upper lip which is only round on the bottom. The upper lip (generally) protrudes further than the bottom lip - unless the character is talking, then either may protrude further. To add creases to the outer edges of the mouth - mask everything except the lips, rotate the head approx 45 degrees and use move with a large brush size to pull the mouth towards the ears and you will create a crease. just some ideas . . . .
Happy modeling

Thanks everyone for the tips, I'll try making another set of lips soon. I've definately gotten quite a few ideas from all of your replies :D :D :D
