Just checking out ZBrush, and very excited! Question for experienced artists:

Is it best to do composition sketches by hand on paper and scan them, or to do them directly in ZBrush via a tablet?

In other words, I can think of many advantages of sketching digitally via a tablet, but would it severely limit technique?

I suppose I could do both...but right now I don't have a scanner OR a tablet!

Hi Stuckfly
Welcome aboard!
But maybe you have a numeric camera or a new phone portable ? :)
So you can make rough with pencils, and take a photo et voila
Have happy Zbrushing!

Thanks for your replies, andreseloy & Frenchy Pilou. I also checked out your galleries and links. Most helpful and the graphics are impressive!

After more thought: I'll go for low-end scanner and tablet (probably need the tablet for better input than my trackball anyway) and see how they work for sketching. Will put the sketch on a layer, as you say. Camera would be a bit more money, but that's a good idea for big sketches and drawings.

Again, thanks!
