View Full Version : help for detailing geometry please
hi all, i got the demo the other day so im kinda new to this. this is one amazing piece of software. i have a query though (actually i have heaps but i'll start with this one)...
can u use the different alpha brushes to sculpt geometry like a sphere 3D. im just finding that at the final detailing stage i need to drop the tool on the canvas and use other tools to do the detail. any help on detailing a model while it is still 3D would be great thanks!!

You should use TextureMaster. The ZScript is included with ZBrush and has a built in tutorial (click the "show and tell" button in the TM panel).

Hi Tjaden,
Yup, Zbrush is amazing!
Another thing to try while working with the 3D model is to have a look at Transform/Modifiers submenu. With the "Edit Curve" you can reshape the tip used for draw/sculpt and move/drag editing of the 3dmodel.
Check out the x,y,z toggles and the noise buttons, too.
What you are doing already is great, but when you decide to buy you'll be amazed at how much MORE you can do with the complete package!

hey thanks for the suggestions guys. i have been using texture masterbut i wasn't aware u could edit the brush shape or add noise. that should help abit. i guess it will just take abit of getting used to. i come from a 3dmax environment so this is a quantum leap in terms of modelling but im still very used used to its "traditional" 3D structure. :) hey i do have another question. when i apply a material to a 3D object it doesn't seem to be locked onto the surface... if i rotate the object the material stays put. am i doing something wrong or is this normal?
thanks again for all the help this site seems to be full of very creative and sincere people all willing to help others a the drop of a hat. zbrush should be proud of the community its helped to create. you guys rock!!! :tu: :tu:
Nothing wrong. Material noise patterns are based upon the XYZ canvas positions. This allows you to create several objects with the same matierial and have all patterns blend seamlessly across the objects where they intersect.
If you wish to permanently fix a material, you would need to bake it into the texture.
