If you use a material for the face, and save a copy under a different name, say one is called 'FaceMat', the new one might be called 'LipsMat'...
Now when you import the 'LipsMat mateial, which hasn't been used yet, you can increase the specularity, or anything else you want to change, knowing that you're starting with a copy of your 'FaceMat'...
You can repeat this process to have many variations of one material, for instance two or three different skin coarseness materials....
Hope this helps.

Another way (there are a few I can think of, stonecutters is one, here's another..) Using TextureMaster, You can have the head be one material, with a certain specularity, and when you want to texture the lips,
1. "Drop" the head.
2. Choose the brush.
3. Choose "M" only under draw. ZAdd off.
4. Choose a material for the lips.
5. Paint the lips with the new mat.
6. Adjust specularity under the material modifiers.
7. "Pick" the head when done, making sure the "M" button in TextureMaster is selected.
Voila. You know have one object with two seperate materials having different specularity values. Hope this helps. See the tutorial that is included with TextureMaster, the second one I think, really shows the use of this effect.
Thanks guys!
I'm not sure if I understand it all but I'll give it a try.
