Hair Tutorial (UPDATED 1.1)
(Based on default document size when starting in version 1.23b Demo)

First let me say that these presets are not law...you can change any of the modifiers to fit your needs.
Also, there is something I found out and don't know if it is mentioned anywhere. If you hover over just above anything..you get a little pop-up window. Now wait...thats not it. While it is up, press cntrl (PC) and the window enlarges with a description. Very helpful stuff!
Drag or Click..or both?
If you said both, your right. First let me start off with some basic stuff..Drag verses click.
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1031545306oeu.jpg
On the right side, I brushed the object just by clicking the mouse several times. The left side was brushed on by clicking then dragging. This technique is not limited to the fiber brush so there is a quicktip. But know this, the drag rec has its uses but I couldn't find one for hair..yet. I does work when painting grass so just play around and find out what you like.
RBG and Z Intensity relations
RBG is basic color control. This means it is directly responsible for transparency and in turn affects length. This is subject to the color you pick. You can get fine transparent hairs with a white color but thin and soft with a black color (Primary selector).Z Intensity also affects lenght but more inportantly, Depth or a virtual thickness of the strand but not as dynamic at the actual thickness modifier (Like shape, we don't discuss thickness because we leave those fibre modifiers at default).
I leave RBG and Z at about 3 to 6. Draw size, draw depth, and density are the things I change the most.
A word about the Modifiers.
As you know, this is where you alter your dynamics of the brush. From ultimate Negative Gravity and a fine brush for Eyelashes to Zero density and Max Turbulance for puff (using the click painting style). The following images where made with the long and fuzzy setting. On the left side, the modifier is at minimum setting. On the Right side is its maximum setting and well the middle is middle or 50/50. You will also see that each of the three examples have three strokes. The first was clicked on and the second was dragging up, the third was draggind down...(remember this brush has negative gravity!). Sometimes there are just two..hehe *blush* The importance is the difference between clicking and dragging.
Density
There isnt any 'three samples per' here
(hover mouse over Modifier and when the window pops up, press and hold down control).

Flat color, Back C, and Source C (Color) are the color dynamics of the brush. When painting hair is it a good idea to leave flat color alone (save eyelashes). I never use flat color because well..hair isn't flat! You can get a wolf like fur by using the Mustache brush and changing the Secondary color to a dark color (better make it black) and a light color for the Primary color and selecting Back C. Back C starts the stroke using the Backround Color and Source C starts the stroke using the color of the Source Pixol.
Leave RBG Antialiasing, Shape, and Thickness at default.
Here are the parameters for the brushes (Sorry, I can't save tools to upload). Remember, these parameters aren't solid you can change anything you feel. This is just a jumpstart (This includes Draw size, Draw Depth and alphas.
The Draw depth used is usually around 2 to 8. Draw size is relevent to document size so this to is subject to change per incident.

*BIG NOTE - Clicking is very important for this one though..aw..do what you want!..Have Fun!
Now, tips for better hair construction.
It is alway good to layer on the hair slowly by clicking...slowly building up the hair. Dragging is for your sense of hair direction (next to gravity).
Also, I found out that there is no such thing as black hair save dyed hair...even if it looks black, there is still
some color..mostly dark dark browns.
Hair strands are also slightly variant in color so when your layering... alter the color slightly. You can even get an aged effect by layering white or creme hairs onto your colors. This is the most dynamic with darks like...Black..or Dark dark Brown!
Image must be baked and all on one layer for hair to appear proper..if not then the hair cuts off at the objects edge. Also, it is good to have two layers. Why? Because one layer can be used to brush the hair on the outside edges of the object. The when the second layers on top gives you..TADA..hair behind an object..then start slowly layering on the top layer. This gives a better sense of depth and also looks much better. Be aware that when using multiple colors, the image can look bad if the two layers don't match up.
Transition to grass is simple. Change the colors to greens and yellows and layer them also. It is a good idea to also keep the back c on and make the secondary darker...thought like I say all the time, there are exceptions to everything..even the exceptions. Also, Pick up the RBG and Z intensity to a higher number..about 75.
Well this is it for now...excuse the bad spelling and grammar where present.
Now go out there and make cool stuff!
MMWOAHAHAHAH!
Hope this helps.
Happy ZBrushin!
