After a full two weeks with Zbrush...I feel as though I can now model with it almost as well as I can with Lightwave or Studio Max.

Comments are always welcome

Outstanding, Loqutos.

Are those ZSphere or the 3D sphere tool? Will you be modeling the veins, or using the 2.5D brushes? How did you manage the toe nails?

As far as possible adjustments, maybe the little toe can be rotated away from the others (Judging from my own stinkers, I don't believe it needs to be flat as the other four. Of course, I may be a deformed psudopod. :)) Also, the ankles may be somewhat thin (though still look excellent).

I use the Zspheres to model with. I can do the same thing with the sphere tool, but I want to get better with Zspheres.
For the nails...I paint a mask, then invert it..then use a small negative inflate value, then touching up with a small brush size and zadd or zsub.

Thanks for the comments.

Also,

How long have you used LightWave and MAX? Do you have a gallery of previous work?

I've owned LightWave for about 5 months now, and haven't gone anywhere with it. I've been using the ZBrush 1.23b demo, and was able to build a scene within three days.

So, I'm Just curious about, noting the quality of you ZToes, how much experience you have with the spline and point by point tools of the other, more 'spensive apps. :D

I have been using Lightwave for almost 15 years now...Studio Max for about 5 years. It does take a while to get the hang of Lightwave and Max, they have a much steeper learning curve than does Zbrush. Keep at it though, you will get results.
I do have a website with some of my work on it..if you want to see it, go to...

Loqutos,

 :tu:

Impressive work, Mr. BigTime. ;) Thank you for the link! Klaus in the lab looks fantastic. 3D Cows must glad you're spending more time with foot studies in ZBrush. :D

Your work is very motivating, and I will continue practicing with LightWave (and Z). Thank you for the encouragement. :D

Denture Cream, if there is anything I can help you with in your Lightwave adventures, let me know. I am always happy to help out fellow 3D freaks!

Thanks for your kind words to Klaus...I will be sure to tell him and Gary (the cow).

looks good, the toe nails came out good did you paint them as a mask in a stencil?

EZ, yes...I painted a stencil on them, then inverted the stencil, then applied a small amount of negative inflate...then touched up with a small brush, and zadd and zsub to finish.

I have to say, that everything I know about this great program was learned here...with the help and inspirational pictures you all do.

Someone awhile ago in one of the posts asked about veins...so, here is an update pic with some vein work and a bit more work on the color and lighting.

Comments welcomed, as usual

That ID4 scene you saw on my website is part of a large animation which blows up the World Trade Center...seems ironic now, but I made that animation when ID4 opened and the World Trade Center was still there.

:)

Best feet I've seen posted on ZBrush. Impressive coloring. Have you tried adding blue-grey to the veins? The saturated purple-violet makes it appear as though his blood is boiling :D.

Are the veins 2.5D brushes or modeled? This seems quite easy for you . . . so . . . to bring more character to your feet :), I think you should add the slight creases around the joints of the toes (where the skin bunches together when the toes bend). Also, stub one of your Ztoes (drop a hammer or anvil on one of them) and colour the contusion. You could also add some nasty, curly hairs and crusty foot fungus in between each one. :D

They look wonderful and very hygenic right now. :D I'd just like to see how far you can take them. Watching someone with your ability is very helpful.

Finally, do you box model in lightwave, or perfer to layout your character with splines?
Just curious.

To be totally honest, I have not been able to get good hair yet with ZBrush. I have seen others get excellent results, but I guess I still need some work making hairs. (Although the hairy toes would look good.)
I do both box and spline modeling with Lightwave and Max. Each has it's strengths, just depends what type of model I am building.
