View Full Version : Action Hero - La Femme Chocolat (Villain)
Action Hero - La Femme Chocolat (Villain)
Artist - Imkan Hayati
The Story - Sylvia Sweet was the daughter of a very influential Drug Lord, known only as Le Rok. Le Rok was also the Managing Director of a major chocolate producing factory ("La Femme"), which became the front for his drug smuggling operatiions.
As Sylvia grew up She was introduced into the family business, and was given the opportunity to look after shipping of the illegal cargo. She became ruthless in her quest to further Her fathers business, by seducing, murdering and assassinating rival Bosses.
One day as she was alone in the factory checking the books, a rival drug Boss (The Slime) and his henchmen entered the factory having killed her fathers guards who were patrolling outside. Hearing the shots Sylvia tried to escape only to be caught by some of the goons.
She was told that her parents were already dead, and that if she didn't join them she will also be dead. She refused. "The Slime" laughed and told his goons to throw her in one of the Vats of Molten Choclate. So they took her to a higher level of the factory and pushed her in.
A month later her Uncle who now ran the family business was walking in the factory when he saw a trail of liquid chocolate coming from one of the vats. He followed it and was shocked to find Sylvia lying on the floor in chocolate form and half melted. She pleaded with him to help, so he took her to the chocolate development laboratory where they constructed for her a temperature regulating device to strap to her back. This device allows her to set her own temperature and to become either solid, semi-liquid or molten chocolate.
She then found out that it was her uncle who had set her and her family up, so that he would be made an under-boss for "The Slime" and own her fathers properties. Her anger was great and she killed her uncle by encasing him in chocolate using one of her new powers.
She became happy with her new form and finding that she also possessed many new and awesome powers, she now wanted to get revenge for her family and to return her families business to it's previous greatness.
Special Powers -
1: Can change from Solid to Semi-liquid to Molten forms.
2: Can change shape and stretch.
3: Can encase people in chocolate as trophies.
4: Can fire balls of glowing molten chocolate.
Weakness -
1: The device that regulates her body temperature, if that gets damaged or destroyed, she can't control her form.

Another cool concept of Fem Fatale. The story's solid and very interesting. Looking forward for the sculpt! :tu:
There is something with the villians.... and there is something with girls that is just so sweet to have together....
Add chocolate in the recipe and its perfect!!!
can she make a sword or a big hammer out of her semi-molten chocolate hands???
Waiting to see your progres...

This concept is completely crazy! I love it. And what a fabulous sketch!
Glad you guys liked the idea, and thanks for your comments since I wasn't sure about the concept at first :) .
Well yesterday I started to get some stuff done in ZBrush, it's the first time I am doing something properly using ZBrush, I have only been playing around with it and trying to learn it till now. So have been looking forward to this, I hope  .
So here is the ZSphere base, I couldn't get hands unfortunately, I had a look at how others have made the hand work, but when I coinverted the ZSpheres into mesh the hand mesh part exploded  . So I am going to model that part later by adding clay.Base_ZSphere.jpg
I guess she can make solid weapons (non-mechanical weapons) with her hands/arms :) . Here are some more progress images. Hope they are looking ok.Level_4_Mesh_Front.jpg Level_4_Mesh.jpg

Hi, an advice, instead of making fingers by adding clay you can make each finger by creating an edge loop on the polygon on the hand at the base of where the finger should be and then work on this new geometry, you'll get a much better result and much easily, also much more easy to manipulate at posing stage. There's an edge loop button in the geometry palette. You must be at level one and hide all geometry except the polygon(s) that you want edge looped, then click the button and there you have it, new geometry to pull a finger out.
Thanks for the advice on creating the hands, will definately try that out :tu: .
I've been trying to get the muscle structures into the mesh and started to work on the face, of course it's all a work in progress, but would be great for any advice. I like the back of the character, but I think the front is still a little undefined :p .
So here's where I am now.
Body.jpg Back_of_Mesh.jpg Front_of_Mesh.jpg
Ok, I like the concept sketch and ur base mesh is starting to take shape. The only thing that doesnt ring well with me is why is she a supervillian and not a hero? From what I see there is nothing villaneous about her, her actions and motivations are the same as most heroes, revenge and glory. I think it would be appropriate if you mentioned that she lost her mind when she was thrown into the molten chocolate vat. That would satisfy me.

Seems like your mesh's starting to take form. Good WIP. Hope you don't mind me saying something. The areas I think you can alter to make an even better mesh would be
1. The skull, I think it's a bit indent in the middle. And the back of the skull's quite flat.
2. The forearm, I see quite a few stretchy polygon is that intentional?
3. The knee area, somehow I can see her knee very thin. And might not be able to support the entire body weight.
I think you are still fleshing out the facial features, so I can't see much of it at the moment. However, great update, I look forward for more. :)

Hey - i like the concept... but the model needs some work...
I'd recommend getting some good female reference pics and just trying to match them to start off with. A lot of your proportions are looking off... Don't be too quick to start detailing before you have good proportions set first...
Keep at it man! Lookin forward to seein ur progress...:tu:
Just to answer a few quick questions:
Hi Aiman, well the main reason my character is a villain is because although like most superheroes she wishes to avenge her parents death, she still wishes to further her fathers business which is the sale and smuggling of drugs, and she will go to all lengths to do so, murder of police officers etc. Hope that answers that?
SolidSnakexxx thanks for the pointers, so I have been working to fix those areas. The arms should not be stretched, so have fixed that, but hopefully will have streams of chocolate later on added.
Chindian thanks for your help too, I agree I need to check out more reference to get the proportions, and I know I have moved on too quickly onto detailing, unfortunately I won't have so much time to work on this once work starts tomorrow, so I am trying to flash as much of it out as possible early on  .
Anyways, today I have been plating around with the head getting some of the features in, still alot of work to do on it though, and I was also playing around to look at poses.
HEAD_01.jpg HEAD_02.jpg POSE_01.jpg POSE_02.jpg
I have been continuing work on the head and it's features and started also adding the hair and the face mask.
I have also been greatly working on the proportions of the character to make it look alot better, which I think it is now, hopefully  .
As for pose, I decided on going for the Pose from my concept sketch. So i have set up the pose using the transforms in ZBrush. and will start getting the mesh fixed and the muscles in as they should be. I will continue working on the face also and the featues to give further definition and clean it up.
Hope it's looking better now  .
HEAD_01.jpg HEAD_02.jpg POSE_03.jpg POSE_04.jpg POSE_05.jpg
It would be nice to make her hair molten chocolate falling all the way down thru her back.... :D :D
I think her arms are a little... anorexic
Thanks ISK-86 that's a great idea for the hair, thanks dude! :tu: Will definately be looking into what to do with it.
Well since my last post, I have been looking into the clothing, and just adapting the initial concept idea. I have looked into how the Clothes will be from her back, the the details I would like to put on the clothes.
I have gone now for all clothing in the same dark chocolate colour, Skin Colour and details in Light and the hair and extra secondary detail a middle colour.
I have also decided to change her top, to look more classic super hero.
I have also looked at the position and basic look of her temperature regulating device.
She was also missing one thing, a superhero logo, I thought a C was abit boring, so I have come up with a chocolate bunny Logo for her ;) .
Hopefully will get back to ZBrushing

Hey spimmy, that is looking good. I like the clothing desing and the logo is great! I think her but is looking fnatasitc, you clearly spent some time there.
It think her proportions could use some work though.
The neck looks to thin to me.
I think the boobs are a bit to low.
the torso is a bit to long
and the shoulders might be just a bit to thin.
Hope that's helpful, can't wait to see more chocolishus babe!
Great thanks for the help Harmonic really appreciate it :tu: .
I agree the proportions are off, will definately be working to sort out those problems, hopefully this evening.
As for the Butt, that just came naturally  .
I have been working to get the proportions of the character corrected. and have worked mainly on the left side of the character, trying to get the arm vaguely correct and reduced the size of the breasts to make it look natural.
There is some thing that looks wrong with her left thigh, but can't work out what it is?
However, I think it's getting there, the neck is thicker, torso shorter, boobs higher, and shoulders wider. The right arm and body side need to be worked on yet.
More proportions for me today:p .

Looks very hot indeed! And I'm loving that logo, excellent work
Actually, I think you're doing a great job on the thighs, hips and pelvis. Here's a sketch of things I would fiddle with
Neck a bit long, I cut out the head and shifted it down a bit
Concentrate on the shoulder and breast area of the raised arm. That's the weakest part so far. Try and find images of women with an arm raised into that position, there's a lot going on with the shoulder mucle mass and the breast needs to react accordingly
Don't lose the general voluptuousness, when things get too flat pay attention to the curves
Hope I could be of assistance, these sketches are very rough so they aren't exactly perfect - if you do use them, use them as an idea to help spot things in your reference material, not an absolute!
Keep up the good work :tu:
fixidea.jpg
Thanks for the sketches matey :tu: , that will really help me to look at those certain parts of the body more. Well I have been looking at Anatomy books so far, but have started to looking for more reference yet, but I am starting to.

First off. I love the original sketch. Very nice feeling of concept and also excellent use of line.
A couple notes for you. Her weight on her right leg: To lift her leg out of the lovely pool you have going there--She would have to actually shift more weight to her right leg. Which means her pelvis would move to her right more, actually slightly to the outside of her foot. This means her leg would be more under her. I think that would give it more of a sense of weight and balance. Also this would force her back to sidebend. Right now you have her back mainly rotating. I think you should have both. Try standing on one leg and lifting the other. You will find you have to shift your pelvis more than you think to not fall over. And the resistance of fluid would make this even more exaggerated. Also the muscles on the top of her left thigh that attach to her pelvis would be contracting more where they attach to the pelvic bone.
I think you are doing a fantastic job with a fatastic concept. Keep up the excellent work. Tips are only thoughts for you--hope they aren't annoying. You can look at my post and you will see that I need to take my own advice. Just giving you these tips before you get into the full on detail stuff. Great job!!
Thanks to everyone who has been giving me advice, it has been a lot of help! :tu:
And here is the result so far, I've been looking at reference to try to get the feeling of the pose better and repositioning bits here and there. Plus I have started to play around with the hair more, and will definately melt the hair into the body at the base.
I am going to work on the hands next, and continue work on the hair.

Wow that is looking way better! Keep working, she is really starting to look nice :tu:
I have started work on the hand starting off with ZSpheres, abd then will merge it onto the characters main meshChoc_05.jpg , still alot of work to get through on it though  .
But I have also been trying to set up the other elements required for the scene, like the Vat of hot chocolate which she likes bathing in :p .

nice, you really improved the proportions. its looking really good :D
I have done another sketch over, this should be the last one I will be doing on the design.
I have developed the clothes further, adapting more to the newer and better proportions of the character. I have tried to break the symmetry up abit with the clothing. For the Face mask, I thought it would be nice to have decoration almost like Venetian masks.
I have also looked at other elements that would be nice to add more detail, such as pipes on the Vat, some overflowing chocolate etc.
Also forgot I need to create a Blob of chocolate for the hand to hold.

I decided to start adding clothes on the character, although I still need to get her hands made  .
But I am more enjoying creating her clothing at the moment, and it helps me see the design coming together alot quicker. I started detailing one of the boots, getting some folds and creases into it. So will continue with the clothing for now and then back to the hair and hands  .

This is looking great. I'd quite honestly like to see her costume not be cloth but dripping chocolate. :) I think her right hamstring could use some work, it should bulge out higher on her leg and taper off in a nice curve as it approaches the back of the knee.

First off let me say I love what you are doing! YOu are doing a great job with a great concept. A couple thoughts for you.
I think she has a great butt--not just because I am a butt...but man, but ( excuse the pun) in my view, it was the most well sculpted region--most natural--maybe you are a but man too--could be coinky dink that that was sculpted so well:) but I hate to see it go in the direction you have your sculpt going wher a large part of it is covered.
Also. the whole composition still feels a little cylindrical to me ( maybe the base creates this--not sure what--as it stands right now, the cylinder style base plus the mesh swirl make you feel that way--I want to see it break out of the plane it is in now or get her pose still more natural. this may be corrected as you begin to bring the flow and drops out of your mesh. She feels a bit entranced more than powerfully delivering something. Maybe she is riding on a chocholate bar that is melting in front of her. Maybe her clothes should resemble a textured chocholate wrapper kind of tinfoil like. The chocholate should definitely spill over the base if nothing else like you have it in some of the sketches.
Just thoughts you can toss around, I am no expert, but I really like what you are doing, so I offer as suggestions that are hopefully helpful. Great job overall, I really like the outfit. The side view is especially nice.
Great job.

I was choking with jackdaniels666's comment ".... She shouldn't have a shirt, one of her powers could be shooting chocolate milk." Man...that's getting "R" rated. Anyhow..back to my comment. I think this looks really good. she's definitely melting "HOT" :)
Thanks guys for the help and the awesome ideas.
I will definately be fixing the hamstring, and the idea about dripping chocolate top is such a brilliant idea, thanks so much for that!! Although I think I will be skipping the shooting milk idea  .
therasoft , i agree with both your comments. That is why I was thining of adding the overflowing chocolate and the pipes on the Vat, to try and break the cylinderical nature of the whole composition, so am hoping that will do it  .
I will also see how to do the chocolate spiral, to not be so butt obscuring ;) .
Thanks so much to the comments, help and support  .

ooooohh hottie
Well I have tried to make the right hamstring look better, I then added some more clothing elements (the arm band and the thigh band). I then added the crease details for the right boot and her top.
I then looked into changing how the chocolate spiral interacts with the character, so that it doesn't hide her back so much. I then inserted the spiral mesh to the chocolate pool mesh and started to blend and shape them more.

Nice update... She's looking better than ever. I like jp_smith's idea...about the dripping chocolate... :o
I do really like the dripping chocolate clothes idea too, but I am not sure how to go about doing it, I was thinking of masking on areas on her body and then extracting (not sure if this is the best way), but I am not sure I have enough resolution to make nice dripping elements .
But I really want to do it :). I also wanted chocolate dripping down her out stretched arm and forward leg. I will work on the hair again soon I hope and get it blended in to the main mesh with dripping strands.
So much to do, so little time  .
jp_smith
01-14-09, 12:49 AM
Well to save resolution you could chop her head off and the jawline and make that a different subtool, as well at taking off areas you can't see like the back of her head, all the really needs is a face based on your current pose. You could try it with mesh extract too with a drippy mask. This is a great opportunity to use the gravity feature for the brushes too. If you can't figure out a way to make it happen that's cool, she still looks great. :)
J
Thanks for the advice and dripping clothes idea, really appreciate it jp_smith :), I have been thinking about it and I will give the dripping chocolate a try, since elements like this would add alot to the concept, but will probably add it at a later stage  .
I have been working on creating base meshes in 3D Studio Max of some of the environmental accessories (such as the Vat logo plate, piping and valve for the Vat) and Chocolate Girls temperature modulating device (hope that is ok to do?). I will hopefully get them into ZBrush today, and position them.
Valve.jpg Pipe.jpg logo.jpg TempDevice.jpg
Moni-Poroni
01-14-09, 08:19 AM
Really cool pipe but why havenīt you done it in Zbrush... :) ? Is it so much harder? I think itīs easy by using the pimitives...deformation settings...and symmetry and stuff like that :)
Unfortunately I am still learning ZBrush, so am still not sure what certain things do and what they are used for etc, so haven't touched any of the deformation tools before. So did the base models in max. I still need to add the Temperature modulating device though.
Anyways I have now added scene elements in and up-res'd the models ready for adding details of dents and welding. I added Chocolate girls logo on the Vat :) .
I also decided the spiral needed to continue round her, I felt the model now missed the original spiral. However now it is not so big, but I though it would be cool theat the spiral came round and became part of the liquid chocolate she fires through her hand.
Anyway here are the update images:

Really nice the base design of this model  Very very cool
Thanks guys for the encouragement :tu: :) .
I haven't had the time the last couple of days to do much really on the model :(.
However I have now finally added the Temperature Regulating Device on Her Back. Worked on the top part of the spiral to give it a nicer curve. I have also added a square base to the whole thing, I hope to place some droplets of chocolate that have spilled over.
I have also looked at the colours I want to use for the Dark, Milk and White chocolate.
Just want to ask if anyone has any problems with transpose tool, where the move doesn't move the whole mesh, and just breaks it up? If so why is this happening?

Anyways today, I have been mainly working on merging the meshes of the Chocolate pool ans swirls, and adding the details with the bubbles etc incorporated. The finishing touch will be adding the drips, but I will add those when I start adding the drips on the clothes.
I also have been working on the hands a little bit more, but will put an update for that later.

yeah, really nice sculpt so far!!! the base and the warm, fluid chocolate are awesome!!!
like it very much! keep it up!
I have just been looking into the base colours for the different elements of the model, it's been quite difficult since she is chocolate, there is only 3 colours to play with.
I want to add scratches, rust and dirt to the vat and piping, and for the concrete base add a proper texture, still need to work on detailing her clothes and hair and adding the drips and other finer elements. But thought it was important to start looking at colours.

Just want to ask if anyone has any problems with transpose tool, where the move doesn't move the whole mesh, and just breaks it up? If so why is this happening?
I don't know if you found your answer yet so here ya go.
1. Make sure that you don't have x y z symmetry on in transform pallett if only moving one side.
2. When moving with the transpose click and hold middle circle only, the top and bottom circles move things apart or together.
:tu: Yeah! Very cool! My favourite! ;)

I showed a friends of mine, the colour test image, and he said although he liked it, he thought the problem is she feels as if she is human with chocolate clothes rather than all chocolate, and said to try out her being the more chocolate colour and her clothes being the white chocolate.
So here is a paint over, dunno what you guys think? I prefer the original, but I agree she looks too human in the original.

Hi Spimmy!
To fix your problem, open your Quicktime player, then
then under Edit > Preferences - Quick Time preferences - Advanced
Activate Safe Mode (GDI Only) instead of DirectX.
Let me know if it works!
Cheers
Great thanks goldo_O, I will give it a try and let you know :tu: .
I have been also playing with the idea of having one of her gang members as part of the scene, guarding her and standing on the concrete.
The idea behind her little helpers is a mix between the Easter Bunny and Umpa Lumpas, so human dwarves in bunny costumes, and these were originally her fathers factory employees :D . Of course I will work on this guy only if I have time to make him, which personally I think I won't :p .
But he's designed if I want to .

an evel little guy! like him very much! nice sketch!
and now i understand your bunny. it is your logo! i was wondering. really a nice logo! like it! the bunny! ^^
goldo_O thanks alot for the help changing to Safe Mode (GDI Only) in Quick Time fixed the problem. :tu:
Anyways, This update is mainly a hand update, I transposed the fingers, and merged the meshes, the hand will be gloved, so I didn't do nails. I will be working on the other hand and get that in at the weekend.
Hand_01.jpg Hand_02.jpg Hand_03.jpg Hand_05.jpg
I aslo worked a little bit more on the chocolate pool, adding extra overflow from the rear of the Vat since I thought it looked unbalanced visually. Also I started adding details on the boots too, which I will try to finish at the weekend too.
Hand_08.jpg Hand_06.jpg
I have also looked at another colour variant for the character, I still think I like the original colour selection  .

Oh spimmy ..
well I donīt know who or what is Umpa Lumpa :o BUT
this littly guy is sooooo cool  :tu: :tu: :tu:
I really really hope thereīs enough time left to sculpt him ;)
Great that you guys liked the little helper guy, yeah lets see how it goes, and hopefully can sneak him in at the end :p .
Moni-Poroni: Umpa Lumpas are the worker dwarves in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", hope that clears that up :) .
skullbeast: Back to the drawing board on the colour selection, luckily the Vat is not lavatory shaped  .
So yeah will continue to look at colours, textures and shaders to use. Thanks for all your guys compliments! :tu:  .
Well since the last update, I have now added and merged the 2nd hand to the main character model, and been playing around with the colours of her clothes and the chocolate and have come up with a solution that I think works quite well and I like the colours :) .
I am still looking at the specular and will try to add some swirliness to areas, to give it more texture hopefully.
Gloves_Front.jpg Glove_Side.jpg
I have also been working on gloves, still abit to do on it with detailing and hopefully will do the same for the arm too.

Also, I have a question, I haven't posted a video yet, how do you actually do that, what is the procedure? (I know You Tube is involved) Be great to let me know how it's done please.

Hi Spimmy, La Femme Chocolat is looking chocolaty good :licks lips: as to your question about the vids. First post your video on youtube, you need to sign up for an account if you don't have one yet. Once you've uploaded your video to youtube you'll see some code for embeding your video, just copy that and paste it here using the {youtube} {/youtube} tag but replace { with [ just ask if you have more questions about it :)

Hey spimmy, really nice work on the boots and glove, I like the direction you are taking them. :tu:
I think pitchepuckis right about the hands.
Thanks Hamilcar for the way to add videos through youtube, I've signed up now, so am testing the process out.

Hey there spimmy All you have to do is
{youtube}6XZlOTTG3FY{/youtube}
Replacing "{" with "[" and "}" with "]" and you will get this:

Great thanks SolidSnakexxx! Now I know  :tu:
Ok, I have now got the boots done, and worked on right hand glove (unfortunately I can't get anymore resolution on certain areas and is turning jagged  , but I guess it's all part of learning).
I have also painted her lips, enlarged both hands and added the other glove, but still need to do the detail work on the glove.
I am just getting frustrated with the detailing at the moment :(, and getting the colours right, I like the set up, but feel just having these 2 plain colours for the character a bit lame  .
Thanks again for the help with the video embedding, SolidSnakexxx & Hamilcar! :tu:

nice details on the gloves and boots. i feel like the chocolate has too many lumps though. you should make it smoother. itll make the sculpt look sexier. melted chocolate is pretty smooth, so id look into that. the figure itself is looking great :D

Great work spimmy, making her entire body chocolate coloured communicates her abilities better.
As for the two-colours being "lame", as you put it, I think being restrained when it comes to colour can be a good thing. However, if you want to give her more "life", so to speak, why not colour her eyes? They are the focal point and they communicate so much. I think by leaving them pure white you are making her kind of "flat", so I'd definately consider it.
Also, some redness to her lips could break up the monotone nature of her colour scheme. And the buttons don't have to be the same brown as the rest of her.
Subtelty is key, but you certainly have a few things you could play with
Oh, and detailing is fiddly as heck, I know, but you've gotten off to a good start, so don't fret!
Best of luck :)

smooth out the "chocolate" and put a shiny mat on it
if you plan on keeping the thickness of the chocolate running up and around her arms, i would completely smooth it and use the lazy brush to make it flow like melted chocolate (it kinda looks like a turd at the moment)
the idea is killer though and the girl sculpt is solid

Hey I think your on the right track, you've already got some good feedback so I guess just keep tweaking it and it will look even better, great work :tu:
note: when you tried to embed the video you put a \ when it should be a /
Thanks again guys for the input, much appreciated! :tu: :)
Well I have flushed the turd away :D , buy starting to smooth out the chocolate pool and it's elements.
I have also looked once again at the colours getting a much more specular material for the chocolate, and also adding a Dark chocolate for the hair and the buttons.
Concrete01.jpg Concrete02.jpg
Also I have been working on getting the concrete base textured, but am getting frustrated since I have yet another issue that needs resolving :( , I filled the base with a white material after disabling UV's, I then selected the concrete texture and an alpha of the texture and started to put the material on.
However everytime I change the material, the model material changes too, but not the whole of the model:
Problem01.jpg Problem02.jpg
I've restarted with it 3 times over and the problem still arises  , does some one know what I am doing wrong? Please?
pitchepuck
01-26-09, 02:40 PM
first of all I think the hands are still too small...
and the material problem...mhh...
did you fill the object with > color > fillobject ???
maybe there was something masked. try deled mask and then fillobject.
Oh well, I guess I will have to increase the size of the hands again, I thought they looked ok though .
The texture thing I have figured out now, I was painting the Concrete texture as MRGB, whilst it should have been RGB and that caused the problem (although I don't understand why?) anyway it seems to work now. :p

Very nice update spimmy
I love the new shiny material and the smoother look :)
But I think IMHO you should maybe make another part of her dark too?
I think if you are going for the three different chocolate colour look
there could be a little bit more of the dark chocolate :)
But Iīm not sure wich parts
I did a little paintover to show you what I mean..
but I donīt know if that wouldnīt look too irritating?
Just an idea ;)

Hey man!
Beautiful model... congratulations.
Thanks Moni-Poroni for the idea ;) . I was actually contemplating having a pattern made from dark chocolate on those parts of the model with white edges as you have shown.
I agree with you Moni-Poroni I think it needs to have more of the dark chocolate since I am going for the 3 colour look. I was also thinking that her lipstick can now also be the darker chocolate too, rather than the white it is now. But I think it looks much nicer having the 3 colours rather than the 2.
I will also look into giving her proper eyes. the only reason I wanted to give her white eyes was to give her that more comic book feel (like Spawns, Batmans, Wolverines eyes in Comic Books).
But my aim is to get the base textured up first, but am not so happy with the pool, needs abit more work to get it chocolatey, but smooth for sure looks better  . (Oh yes enlarge the characters hands too  )
Thanks guys for your ideas, advice and compliments!:tu: ;)
I have been playing around with colours for the Vat and Main Pipe, I have mainly come up with 3 variations, I quite like the first colour set although it is a bit McDonalds :p. I don't know which to go for (although the first one is tempting), or if anyone thinks a different colour palette would look better? (the Vat won't be that dirty by the way :D ).

I love Colours :tu: :tu: :tu:
but I think it would be the best you choose a grey metall look??
maxinkuk
01-27-09, 06:27 AM
I agree with Moni, it's highly distracting, all I'm looking at is the pipe.
I see what you guys mean, I just thought it might be dull to have it just plain old Metallic, but the colours to detract from the important object, the character itself, no problemo  . Thanks guys :tu: . Scrap those ideas then.

My first impulse out of the 3 woudl be the 2nd version. But again, I've to agree with Moni-Poroni, I think you can select metal like materail and it would look pretty neat. BTW, it's looking great now. :tu:
Captain Sensible
01-27-09, 07:31 AM
I don't think the colours should be in there. I feel it's more like candy than chocolate. A metallic vat and pipe would be adequate. Maybe add some old dried chocolate to it to give it something extra but no colours. Chocolate is chocolate and that's all this should be about. Anyway that's just my opinion :)
Hamilcar
01-27-09, 02:54 PM
awesome! Her chocolate skin is looking much more convincing, good work. As for the container imho I would go with stainless steel look. Good Luck:)
Well thanks guys for you opinions on the base, I think going for a metallic finish was going to be the way to go :) , so here is the base so far, it's nearly finished, what I really want to do it add the chocolate stains to the upper part.
BASE_06.jpg BASE_05.jpg
A quick addition was also a Tatoo :o .

La Femme Chocolat (Villain) very marketable.
Lets see what the judjes say. Good for comics and good for commercials. To Cadburys what chiwawa is to Taco Bell. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ etc.
Thanks for the compliments "Shapeworldwide" & "jackdaniels666". :)
Thanks "Moni-Poroni" & "SolidSnakexxx" for the advice, although I liked the logo with the pink, I understood your point and have changed it. :tu:
I have also added dried drips to the top of the Vat, a couple of chocolate buttons on her panties, and played about with the lighting some more. I npw don't think the splatter of chocolate on the floor, or the chocolate coming over the edge of the Vat look great, and am thinking of getting rid of those elements.
What do you think? Also can you delete unwanted polygon faces in ZBrush?

Do you want to know if itīs possible to delete unwanted Polygons?
If so: yes you can

I have for the moment cleaned up the chocolate pool and the splatter on the concrete, to give it the right chocolatey feeling. I also toned down the modelling of the concrete, since the tiny bits looked too jagged.

Well I have done some minor updates: I returned her eyes to bright white rather than black, since I like the plain white eyes better. I have finally enlarged her hands and fixed the wrist. I finished modelling her ears (only for personal learning reasons since you will never see them :p). Finally worked on getting some white chocolate melting into the brown chocolate where they meet.
Does anyone know how to blend 2 materials together since I didn't really want to have a hard edge?
I will post the body transpose video tomorrow, since I didn't get the chance to prepare it. Also I keep getting that problem with the Vat and Transpose, where it breaks the mesh, and can't move it. I really need to move it down a bit but can't do so?

Hey spimmy, I have a possible solution to the transpose difficulty you are having. It sounds similar to something that happened in my transpose vid. Is part of the model moving but another part ,that is not masked, is not moving? You might want to try unifying your objects, its in the deformations pallet. I had to unify them on their highest sub d level or they would explode. You will have to reposition your sub tools but you don't have that many. Check out my transpose vid and see if it is the same problem.
As far as blending materials, I would render the enter model in one material, then in the other material and behind the two renders in photoshop.
Hope that helps. :tu:

I don't know how much Photoshopping is allowed though, if any .
Harmonic - Thanks for the advice, yes that is the problem and it solved it for most things, but when I scale the vat up again, and try to move it, it breaks up again, funnily enough only 2 meshes this happens the vat and the ground plane  .

nice work so far.
about the comic book cover.
background doesnt really work yet. have u thought about a factory background?
something that blends with the pedestral.
the font for the headline looks ok.
you shouldnt use it for the small text below though.
gets very hard to read and looks to busy.
about your renders from zbrush.
double your document size and draw your model. go into edit.
on the right upper side of your viewport you see a button named aahalf.
press that.
your zbrush screengrabs are full of aa artifacts. doing as i told u will eliminate all that  :tu:
Great Thanks for input Disco Stu :tu: , I will play around and try those things out :)

Hey spimmy, that cover is looking sweet! the arm coming out at the camera doesn't read to well though, I would play with the silhouette to get it to read better. :tu:
Thanks guys for the input on the comic cover, will be working on that further on the side, as I continue working on the model :tu: .
I have been looking at lighting, I think I have now a little bit more grip on the way it works in ZBrush. I have to set-ups I have saved, I like a little bit of both. The first image I like because the darkness gives her a more sinister look. The second Image I like because it shows more of the details.
Does anyone have lighting tips that might help me, because I am finding it difficult to get the right mixture of highlights and shadows, with areas being too bright?

02-03-09, 07:19 AM
Looks very good now :tu:, one tip I can give you is that you can modify the way the surfaces react to light by changing the parameters of the materials in the Material palette.
Harmonic
02-03-09, 07:38 AM
I am certaily not zb lighting master, but I have been experimenting with using almost no ambient light. I have been using lots of lights and tuning the ambient off in the light pallet. The important thing is to make sure that the light is pointed at the right spot on your model, using the P button under the placement tab under your lights. You click that button and drag your mouse to the spot on your model where you want the light to point. I would also recommend playing with the modifiers of some mat caps, and maybe making your own. And lastly I would look in rendering in passes and composting in photoshop.
Thanks maxinkuk and Harmonic for the tips on materials and lighting.
All the chocolate materials I made from scratch, unfortunately the white chocolate gets washed out, but will try with material modifiers and the lighting to fix it (I guess if that doesn't work I will have to make a new white texture that does  ).
I didn't know how to use that P button, thanks for telling me Harmonic, man that makes things alot easier when placing lights :D. So will play with the lights and textures some more.
A small update since I haven't had much time the last couple of days to really do that much  . Plus I was playing around with lights a little bit to get to grips with it.
Added chocolate drips to the arcing chocolate (still need to clean them up a bit where the drips join the main body). I will then work on drips for the clothes and hair.

Lovely update. Man ! This entry's all about the hot lady in the yummy material.
Thanks guys for the nice comments! :) .
luis2008.I kind of like the contrast between the slightly lumpy, bubbling, gloopy chocolate in the pot and the sexy smooth chocolate of her body, I think it helps emphasize her bodies silkiness. Plus she's meant to be wading through it too, so there would be rippling and undulation. I hope that sounds cool  .
Anways, I was looking into lighting some more today and learnt that Mat Cap materials and lighting in ZBrush don't really work together  . Then I also read this in a post by pitchepuck :( .
So since my chocolate material is all Mat Cap, what would be my options for a good lighting model? Be great if someone could please help!

Hey spimmy do you think you have enough time left for the umpa lumpa easterbunny :) ??
Hi moni-poroni, I'm afraid I won't be able to do the Umpa Lumpa Bunny because of work :( , however I do aim to model him after the competition is over as a personal challenge :) .
Anyways, since no one could give me any advice to get better lighting on Mat Cap materials, I have been playing alot with the lights today and have come up with the following setup:

Ohhhh :( :( Iīm so sad because of the Umpa Lumpa Bunny :( ...
but yes...pleeeease model it later :)..
anyhow...with or without the bunny.. your model rocks!!!
Simply beautiful! :)
Thanks for the compliments Moni :) .
Just wondering if anyone else is having problems with You Tube? Basically I am trying to Upload my final Transpose video. It's 5 minutes long, 65MB, H.264 Video, 640 x 380, 30 fps. Now it Uploads fine, it's just during playback it just skips about 8 frames everytime, so doen't run smoothly at all. I have tried changing aspect ratio, codec, resolution etc, but no luck.  :(
Is it because it's longer than 3 minutes as recommended on You Tube?
I had to Split my final transpose video into 2 seperate videos to run on You tube  , oh well.
I have also been trying to create the dripping clothes, however although I am starting to like it, it will take too long to make it look nice (especially with regular crashes at the moment), since it looks too much like paint at the moment.
So I am going to not do the dripping hair and clothes :( , and spend the time working on presenting the model, since next week I won't have any time really to work on her any more.
Here is the drip image, just to show I did start to attempt it:

this is a really fun entry, but most of all you can clearly see your moving forward as a sculptor, you should be proud, it takes alot to just get a project complete. good work all round.

MAT CAP materials have got preset light maps!!! If you want to get a better light set you should use the "normal" materials.
If you use mat caps you are only able to use the sun light.
I hope this will help you :D
