Dr Carl Aracknus, a world renown genetic engineer and DNA researcher was reported missing today. He was known for his scientific contributions in the fields of spider poison and antidotes, rumor has it that he was working on top secret military weapons infusions concerning a volatile serum. The Dr. Lab was found in a curious state. Apparently he had been taking his work home for some time and conducting experiments on an undisclosed patient. The lab and all of its contents was nearly destroyed from an explosion and all of the records and data have been reported missing.

Super powers - climb walls, spin webs, paralytic bite, super human strength and speed.

Known Weakness - The serum (Highly addictive must be taken daily to controll his rage), extreme cold.

You character has a very unique silhouette and the base mesh has very nice topology. I assume you are going to model one of the spikes on his back and then mirror/append them for his other spikes? And how are you going to make the little prickly hairs all over his body? I would be interested to know. Good work so far.

SolidSnakexxx
12-30-08, 08:35 PM
The shape is taking very nicely and the base mesh represent the concept sketch very well. He sure is one menacing villain! :tu:

Great start, it's good to see you in the comp, I follow your sketchbook a lot. My only critique would be his leg (mostly in the half and ankle/foot area) look a bit thick for this character, but it's still early yet, I'm sure you'll make those adjustments. Good luck and keep up the good work!

skullbeast
12-31-08, 06:38 PM
you are correct sir. he he. Im not sure I really looked at them before from this angle they look like 2 loaves of bread to me now. :tu: :tu: ;)

Starting to see the details you've put on this Widow maker.. He really gives me the creeps. I really dig the mix of partial human arm / mutate form like on his right leg/hand. Really good mixture and yielding great result. :tu: :tu:

Looking good dude. Are you going to put cobwebs hanging off him when you do the base? I reckon it would look cool if he was making his own web to catch enemies or something like that. Spider-mans got his work cut out for him ;)

MonteCristo
01-01-09, 05:09 AM
Hmm... Not sure. Any chance you could make this one look a bit less cute?

Seriously, that creature is horrific. Great work Skullbeast!

Wow, the character's coming up wonderfully. Especially with the hairs. I've been doing the hair on my character Mantis too and it's taking me ages to plug in the hair individually. Do you have any tricks as for how to add in the nice slowing hair like what you have on the Widow Maker? :tu: :tu:

However, I think the greater his claws a little bit are forming better.

cmoffitt
01-01-09, 08:34 AM
Very NICE! I LOVE the head on this guy. I like the asymmetry as well. It keeps your eye moving around looking at all the details. Someone commented on the legs being too thick but I do think the THIGHS should be thick to support all that weight but it would be cool to see what his lower legs would look like elongated and maybe a bit more boney and lean. Just an idea. Great job, skullbeast!

markkens
01-01-09, 09:25 AM
Ick. Never have liked real spiders, so when I saw your rough I was a little hesitant to see where your skillz were going to land this one!

The head is especially nice (tentacular teeth ;) ). I want to see it textured!

SSxxx you may wish to (merge visible) group the hairs into 3 or 5 hair clusters and make several different cloned copys to choose from then with the move brush give them a little directional wave. that will cut down your time greatly.

..... and a great big yes to the webs and drool.

I like ur design so far, but trying as hard as i can in the realm of believability, is there a reason he doesnt have ginitals? I would be pissed off like him if that were the case. Also why is he soooo not hairy?? Spiders are supposed to covered with hair. I think randomn patches of hair could solve the genetalia problem as well as make him look more menacing and oppressive. Beastly even.

Seavannah
01-01-09, 04:05 PM
Ohhh I love him and hate him all at the same time. Real great sculpting. Keep it up.:D

skullbeast
01-01-09, 04:19 PM
Thanks aiman, but he is way off from being finished. You figure I only did the design over 2 days ago and the base mesh about twelve hours later. I was planning of maybe some ripped up clothes and much more hair I am only on my forth sd level (118,000 polys for the body so far and a total of less than half a mill). I still need to place good eyes in the head work out the upper-body and legs more. I just looked at it as I just got all of my parts. Now its time to do some work.

Seavannah - Thanks!

Thank you so much for the hair tips I'll merge mine to make it more "manageable" BTW, the ZTL attached has some kind of error when opening. Can you resend for me to learn? Again thank you sooo much :)

Just a thought....Your character and mine could actually be int eh same universe....and have an all out dueling! (May be after the contest can we do like a diorama or something...)

But I´ve one question in view of the eyes...:)
Will they be symmetrical ?
Because it looks like one eye on the forehead is missing ?
Best wishes

skullbeast
01-03-09, 12:24 PM
Thanks, he's got 7 eyes.

I made that little black dot on the concept an eye so the 6 are symmetrical, and the 1 in the off-center is asymmetrical interesting little fella.

SolidSnakexxx - Thanks bro! Its starting to click for me all of a sudden.
threetails - I may try a couple different ones and see what works best. I have a feeling he will standing on the base with a larger web behind that goes even higher up. Cocooned victims of course. I would love to do a sitting and waiting for the hunt pose but there is not much action in that.

Why did that happen???

skullbeast
01-10-09, 03:23 PM
good question? Today has been nothing but problems for me with the tp master.  and I have a recording of this... yeah!!! oh well Looks like old-school (command1) again.

Moni-Poroni

I´m sure some of the other Zbrush artists will help you ;)

Fess
01-10-09, 03:41 PM
Yeah, transpose master was always problematic for me when dealing with too many objects. You should be able to pose your guy if you don't include all the tiny hairs though, (and pose those without transpose master). It could be just the multiple objects that are in one subtool that is the problem also.

Hope you find the solution!

skullbeast
01-10-09, 04:00 PM
I'm well on my way now just a little group organizing and command 1 and I'm set.

I just posted a way to pose multiple subtools without using Transpose Master. Click here to see it.

widowmaker90pose1.jpg thanks! the command 1 is a repeat last move trigger so you gust have to move to the next already masked subtool and hit command 1 and repeat of whatever move you just did. thanks I will me merging once I move my base over. :tu: :tu: :tu: widowmaker90pose2.jpg

maxinkuk

The two techniques complement each other perfectly. If the mesh is not horribly heavy one can well get away without using Transpose Master with these.

This is a fantastic work.

Only thing that catches my eye is the human elbow. I keep seeing a little more definition in the left elbow. It would be nice if were a little more similar to the spiders elbows above it. I mean just a touch more for transition between the head and hand.

I think the line or crease is already there, it just need to be darkened a little.

Beyond that, it's a very remarkable character work. Bravo.

Very cool model so far dude. I'm really digging the pose too.

I have a few comments if they'll help you out.

* The hands could use some more action, they're pretty straight right now (not sure if you've just not gotten to that yet or what)

* the left foot his toes don't flow right, the smaller (outer) ones should be flexing more back (straightened out) to give the appearance of the weight being on the inside of the foot. Put your foot in the same position and see how your toes would naturally fall.

* Something cool could be to have one of the spider legs actually digging into the ground tearing it up a bit to give the appearance that he's using them to help propell himself along????

Anyway, keep up the good work

EvilSmiley - thanks! and yes I haven't even touched the hands yet. the foot does needs some work yet to massage the pose. And I also agree on the spider legs. :tu: :tu:

Y/Haüss

This pose is very Impressive... searching the next victim.
...oh, about movies try to expor them in their native format then convert them with a free package converter.

testure
01-10-09, 09:39 PM
skullbeast: iirc the movie export doesn't work on mac at the moment. The best way to do it is to install Jing (http://www.jingproject.com/), and then hit the playback button once your capture has begun.

Jing is awesome, and it's free btw.

nice looking entry also- every time i read this thread title I think it says "window maker" haha :)

here is the base that I now dislike. It works as a stand alone but.....I hate it now. Its to large and it takes away from the presence of the Widow Maker. OK round 2 on the base. I think a simplified base may work better.

jp_smith

Yes, the base as cool as it is draws focus away from your cool character, I think you could just lop off the bottom part of it and it'll be perfect. :tu:

Wow Skullbeast, your creative talents never cease to amaze me. Great job on the sculpt buddy. It's coming along great. My suggestion would be to maybe add some kind of infestation or skin deformity (something that looks like it has small eyes) on one of his forearms. Hey skullbeast, glad you liked my idea. :tu: As far as the pose goes, my suggestion would be to turn the head to make him/it look forward. Also, take the left hand and rotate it to have the palm facing forward as well and make the fingers a bit more dynamic, as if he was about to "claw" at something, just to give a more fierce and believability to the creature. Right now I feel as if he's striking a pose for a dance move. ;) Hope this helps.

Just wanted to say that I like the paint-over you did, but you might want to leave out the web from his abdomen to the sidewalk.. it makes him seem restrained. But if you added some small vertical elements to the enviroment, you would have a great place for some more webbing. Keep it up :D

you know mate i was thinking on some idea for your pose or at least an idea for it anyway. you can take it if you will its up to you. im only here to help. anyway, i was thinking for you pose well if you like this you may have to change your base but here me out first then decide. i was thinking for you widowmaker to be in like the darkness of like maybe a crevice between two buildings or something like that and for your pose have it like lashing out from the darkness with your little spiders on the wall and grabbing something to feast on. maybe a human or some animal whatever. ill try and do a sketch for you if i can. probably better to see it then be told about it. just a thought. no need to do it if you dont want. im liking your widow maker a lot. very good work indeed. :D :tu:

Edit: Actually come to think of it that might not be a good pose. forget i said anything.

Hey man, Just another thought...
You might want to add some more detail to the pants (especially around the tears and edges). I have not realized it until now, but the diference between the detail in the body and the detail in the pants, makes the pants look slightly blob-ish. And you wouldn't want something that simple to inhibit your sculpt getting all the praise it deserves. :D

John,

Every day brings some improvement on the Widowmaker!:tu::tu:

If you've got polypainting left to do, consider shifting the color of the inside of the mouth...the uniform color there makes the "tongue" look like part of the exterior.
