Looking sick man ..in a good way just 1 suggestion - His left hand pose is very aggressive but the right hand looks a bit limp ...would give it the same aggression :)
Apart from that this guys pretty nasty and motion blur looks good :D :tu:

Definatly looking better with each screenshot. Only thing I see (as someeone else mentioned) are the tears in the pants, the edges need to be frayed a bit, along the hole as well as at the bottom of the pants.
It's definatly on it's way to a top row image for sure!

I was just looking about and I'm not sure that everyone knows how to get a halfway decent render in Zbrush I always see the broken pixoled edge!
Ok
-step 1
save your ztool as a new #.
-step 2
document>new document. then document>double. Light>drag the light to match a light source.
-step 3
zoom out so that you see the whole canvas. draw out the tool. edit. position tool in the frame. document >save as document. add tool # to title. save.
-step 4
render>render best.
-step 5
wait and touch nothing!!!!!!!!!
-step 6
the most important step! click the AAhalf button!
-step 7
document>export. now open that exported picture in photoshop and have your way with it!
enjoy! I will link some videos

I'm so impressed by this! The renders really are beautiful, I'ts been an great journey watching the Widowmaker come to fruition, not an opportunity I get too often to see work like this progress from beginning to end.
Anyway, looks like you've wrapped him up, am I right? Scary; both the character, and the fact that he's come so far and I still have soooooooo much to do!
Congratulations! :tu:

Etcher - I'm glad I could help!
andyhosmer - what's up my old fiend! all is well. you know, monsters as usual. I get board of em' as fast as I can make em'. nice to see ya up here. I was back in Pittsburgh a few months ago and stopped by to see Tom Savini and Jerry Gergely. Where are you now?
petekasim - thanks I'm just mucking about now. I want to tighten up the over all forms. I was thinking of also adding a railing and maybe some webs on that, and a sweet new revised modeled logo. polypainting.

an addition to skullz render blurb is the Depth of Field. a great way of defining the scale of your model.
Alpha Pallette: - GrabDoc button will pull the depth of field from how far the first polygone is from the camera. and an alpha like this will be pulled for compositing in aftereffects or photoshop.

Great details and love the asymmetrical face.

DAnconia - I see your point. I have thought about a hand on the ground now for some time. I was using angry spider ref which is symmetrical. ....however the more I look at this, the more I feel, that I will loose to much action by grounding the arm.

Another insane render! Small crit, the venom seems quite uniform hanging from those 'pincers'. Like they are made from the same object. Sorry for the crude paint over (with a mouse) on your wonderful work, but maybe something more like this? Where you get bits joining.

01-29-09, 08:12 PM
John,
You know I'm a fan so don't take this the wrong way...
Now I'm starting to feel like I lost my glasses when I check out the latest versions...back off on the blur--you're losing lots of prime detail. It looks great on the larger suspended legs in the hero pose but from the knees down all that's relatively stationary so there shouldn't be blurring. The quality of your texturing is too high to smudge it out--the hero render on post 323 is really nice from a texture point of view.
I really like the highlighting with light approach you used in the later renders. If you're using the blur to "focus" the attention then having the WM emerging from shadow is a consideration.
Just my stinkin' opinion:D
No more until you win!
skullbeast
01-29-09, 10:33 PM

Although at that angle the torn pieces of his pants are a little 'suggestive' :P hehe
Great work
This is looking like a winner already!
For your final render, make sure you've fixed this uniform specularity problem, won't you? At the moment the model looks so much like a real world model. The trousers look particularly like they've been painted with oooold Humbrol paint from the bottom of the tin!
Cheers,

The renders are looking great! Like from a scary movie! The only thing that I whould change is this green liquid, I whould try to render this on separate layer with some transparency. Now it looks a bit toony in comparsion with rest of the scene. Hope that will help.
skullbeast
01-31-09, 09:13 AM
thanks I have no clue on the transparency thing. I tried that before and wanted to scream. any ideas for the process?

01-31-09, 09:23 AM
thanks man! thats mighty cool of you! :tu: :tu:
Ok, this is nothing fancy but if you custom your material better then I did you might achive a good effect.
This is made like this:
On the first layer is ma SLady ( I think this is possible only with stills) and above her is a layer with ths green sphere. You could use zapLink to adjust both layers. In render options you have to turn off flatten. You might need to bake underlayer but I am not shure of that. a then you render with "best" ofcource.
I hope this will help. If you work out the good material it should look better, I even saw that someone have made refraction effect but I don't know how...

01-31-09, 01:04 PM
John,
A layer can be altered in opacity...put the venom subtool on its own layer, select it, and you should have an activated 'Transp' button at the bottom of the right toolbar (of a default interface ;) )
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=46103
Or just search 'transparency' on Z.
The great Marcus Civis say:
"The Transp button you are talking about is for SubTool transparency - in other words the button is only active when your ztool has subtools. In order to use material transparency you need to select a material with a transparency modifier, such as GelShader, and adjust the transparency slider for the material (provided you have followed the steps you describe for two layers and Flatten off)."
Now go win something.
Blaine91555
01-31-09, 01:14 PM
ZBrush Document.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%27125605%27,%27ZBrush%20Document .jpg%27,1,0%29)
You can also have refraction and get fairly good imitations of translucency. Look up refraction in the help files at Pixologic.
For this they must be on the same layer however and the layer baked. You can adjust through the rgb slider or you can make many modifications with the normal material (no Matcap) with transparency and through coloring diffuse. Also reflections can be added.
The hollow look of the top sphere is done by using negative transparency in the material which is the plastic material in this case.
I don't see these used much in renders here but full details are in the documentation.
I have not been posting much but I'm enjoying your progress on this.:tu::tu:

markkens thanks I'll be back at the clear thing soon.
Blaine91555 Thanks! is that a baked image with a new layer?
KrakenCMT thanks man! Likewise! Yours is looking stellar!

Nice render.
You have to bake the layer first. Then add the object that is to have refraction on the same layer. Best Render with Flatten off. Transparent Objects can also be added on another layer but you don't have refraction that way. You can also place two copies of an object in the same location with a Marker. Put one for the refraction on the same layer which is baked. Then add a duplicate on next layer with transparent material. Some interesting effects can be had that way.
When you place the object, before you select edit, move RGB slider to the amount of color you want which also gives it its transparency. You are basically setting the alpha. Then click edit. Go to the Draw Pallet where you will see a Refract slider to set amount of refraction.
Pick a material like plastic or the one with reflection. Set transparency to desired amount, negative or positive. To color it pick the color in the diffuse box at bottom of material options and set amount of diffusion. You can also add color through the material color. With tweaking you can come close to translucent. Play also with the amount of RGB in the slider at the top. To change it just unselect edit, move it then reselect edit.
I should have you confused by now.

Really great concept sketch. I love creepy villains and whats creepier than a spider and a black widow at that. This would def be a great creature to see fully fleshed out in a model. I would use it to creep out all my squeamish friends. Haha:)

Haha I didn't see the full render when I put my last post up. My internet was moving too slow to load it. I was right though. Damn good lookin villian. Very creepy. Love his face it looks kinda like the Cloverfield monster, which is a huge compliment. Great job!

Another wonderful render. :tu: I think with Blaine91555's method you can achieve quite a good transparency result.

I went back and experimented and refraction does work with matcaps. Not sure how useful that is though as you have to bake the layer. Good for stills though.

EvilSmiley - thanks and I just noticed the pm.
omnimorphic - just trying to keep it comic oriented. I was thinking he was a scientist and his mind is still intact. At least they are more explainable then the hulk's. and who wants to see a spider d*ng anyway.

Not only is the sculpt top notch (well, it's been amazing for weeks niow), but the presentation is just fantastic too... I started watching that cool vid, but it stalled around quarter of the way through! I'll try again later, but anyway, I'm just dumbfounded that you've managed to get so much done at such a consistently high quality
How on earth do you find the time!?
Oh yeah, and now I can't stop thinking about spider d*ng.... !

Hi Skullbeast. Great videos and a superb render! :tu: ! Just got out of bed and this is so much better than reading the morning newspaper :) . Did you use the same quality settings for both videos ? I'm asking this because the first vid plays with the standard YouTube quality, but the second is remarkably better in quality and crispness.
Anyways, what a great way to start the day :tu: !
