View Full Version : An R. Crumb thread...I wasn't going to post this but...
Stonecutter
09-08-02, 02:54 PM
I did this for Digits, who like me is a major R.Crumb fan, and have since been made aware that there are a few of us around...
Soooo...I thought I would start an R. Crumb thread, so these undercover geezers can sharpen their stylus, and join in with their own...
So here's 'Onward Through The Fog' to get things started... ;) :D

:) ok, here is my tribute to the master - though i wasnt going to post this, too. you might want to add some :ex: to the header, Michael, warning of political uncorrectness and the likes which is very likely to happen in here :)
http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/streetflat.jpg
still a wip, probably (dont know if i go back, but i have an idea about making it a comicbook-cover with lettering et al.): i want to make mr. natural cross that street and making him look less alert and to add/improve a few details here and there.
from last week of september until february there is a big crumb-exhibition about 40 miles from here - a must for any afficiando - and i am one since ’71 :D
for those who are too far away, check out the crumbmuseum (http://www.crumbmuseum.com/)

Michael, this is great! I wish I had a contribution, I only hope to see more dementedness abound. Thanks so much for the link Juandel. I had forgotten all about the Snoid! and other wonderful treasures to be had

Nice Images Stonecutter---and Juandel--both are fine tributes to Robert Crumb...this is a fun topic --and I hope I can catch up with my day and join in--as it is all I have is an oldie but goody--which most have seen--but here's to Crumb --Zap and all of us who chuckle at the thought of all his zaniness... :D :D :D :D
OOOPS Yes Frenchy I forgot to mention that your sketch of Crumb was very good--nice free style to it
Good images Michael and Hansl, like the drawing as well Frenchy P. :tu: :tu: :tu:
Dave
The images so far look great, I can't wait to see more. I seem to recall that Ed did one not too long ago also (search seems to be down right now). Would be perfect for the thread.

I wasn't going to make this public either, but what the heck! As a gemcutter this is one of my favorite materials, a Brazillian stone called 'Sphalerite', which has what's called 'high dispersion'...What this means is that like Diamond, it breaks light into dispersive colors...In order to duplicate the material, I used lighting, and an earlier version of the figure I used in my first posting...So here's a 'Sphalerite Trucker', done for my own amusement...
Hope you like him...My first gemstone ZSphere tool. ;)

EDIT: Thank you Hansl and Frenchy! And I think your image is totally okay Hansl...We're talking Historical Documentary here! ;)
I just wanted to say that the first image in this thread reminded me of gummi bear candies... Crummi gummies  Now this one really tops it. It really does have a cut gemstone look, and the different colored lights reflected on the facets is a great effect.
Juandel, your image is classically PC, (pretty comical). A beautiful woman streaking on rollerskates! The look on that fire hydrants face would be mine also :D
Priceless Michael! The bodies of discarded zsphere bodies is very crumblike as well!

97% zbrush, as i made use of photoshop for the carambolage and comics-font ( it should have been komix or at least comix, i guess) and .jpg-ing it, of course. other fonts were done with the tools that come with Muvlo’s Lord of the Letters (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=003262&p=). all fonts are alphaskinned after mrgbzgrabbing them, then deformed.
thanks for viewing! :)

You guys are making me VERY glad that I started this thread, just so I can see:
A: These are great images...
B: How many undercover weirdos I'm sharing the planet with... :D
Thanks RoBo and Hansl for the contributions, and as soon as I finish my 'Trayn Of Thot' which I'm working on now, I intend to do lots more of these 'Crumbistic' deallies!
:tu: :tu: :tu:
what a great thread.....I enjoyed many underground comix as a lad(what?)R.Crumb among them-but there was another one-eyeballs with wings-no words in the speak balloons-just a strange acid language-since I lived through that period and managed to survive I cannot remember what his name was-for me his work was the most profound and unique-help me I'm sinking!(not Kelly-Mouse Studios)His E's were made with 3 horizontal slash marks(no vertical)Hansl-wow those big beautiful *^#+* buttocks- what a perfect cover.( maybe I've gone to far here)

We think Victor Moscoso -- but then there were so many wavy images then...the eyeball with wings was Rick Griffin --and the other mentioned stuff i think was Moscoso --you might be merging??????

Wow-Woooh !! --mentions of S. Clay Wilson and all the ZAP magazine people makes me run thru all my compilation books--some of these people still turn out incredible stuff --S. Clay was featured a few years ago in Juxtapoz magazine --and he was selling big paintings of the checkered demons and such...
AND thanks to all who looked at my Croodloop 67 --I appreciate very much your comments --thanks Wenna -Juandel and Rhom ..those kind words made my day....

whoooo-hoo, robo! :)
i come back from doing a lil resaerch as well... as my collection is at another place i got online and i think i found the reason for the above confusion (eyeballs with wings AND moscoso): they have done a collaboration work! i found an excerpt of that story here (http://www.lambiek.net/griffin.htm) background, donald and mickey methinks are 100% moscoso, fighting eyeballs are griffin’s.

Thanks to you Michael and your kind donation of your Truckin guy I finally have a contribution.
Blaring out of the window of a Seedy Downtown hotel a babble of music drifts down to the street below. The Truckin Man stops and listens. Shortly his BIG Foot starts a Tappin. Next his other BIG foot starts a tappin. He looks at his left hand and it starts to snap. He looks at his right and it starts to snap. Ever so slowly his butt starts to gyrate and pretty soon he is in a downright Hip Hop Boogie

Geeze...Speak of the geezers and two of them show up! :D
Floyd that is unbelievably cool, and what really made it for me was the most classic piece of synchronicity I've experienced in a long time...
I had Spinner playing while I was in front of my computer, and had the roots reggae channel playing Burning Spear playing 'African Dub'...
Well, I and I was amazed by the way your dancer was in synch with the music...Amazement and hilarity warring within I, Mon!!!
Hilarious and brilliant, and you did major justice to him, so I was right Matey!!
 :tu: :tu: :tu: :D :tu: :tu: :tu:
EDIT: I left and came back, and trust me, this guy ain't 'hip hoppin'...He's dancin' to the Reggae beat...Go to Spinner.com, download the player, put it on Roots Reggae, and see if you don't agree... :D
Man, I was hoping Mr Natural would show up, and he did, and such a cutey :)
I need to sell my stuff, go to a monastery, get broadband and improve my skills :D
Thanks for the grins, folks
Great stuff all round guys, and Digits, that's a surprise piece of Z animation  , I must check out your new Z sphere widget  :tu: :tu: :tu:
