Action Hero - The Pigeon Lady

Hey All,

Gonna see if I can put the time in and get an entry done.

Name: Matt Berenty
Entry: The Pigeon Lady

Backstory:

Though her name has been forgotten her story remains clear. Once a loving mom from midwest pennslyvania, she was driven mad when her daughter was murdered in central park NYC, her killer never being found. She became convinced that only she could find the killer and carry out the vengence she feels her daughter deserves. Her drive became an obsession as she stalked the park, but to no avail as her daughters killer was gone. Alone in her solitude she was befriended by the pigeons whose feeding had became the one bright spot in her life. Upon learning that there loyalty to her was absolute, she decided to stalk the park preventing the violence with her avian friends so that others would not have to go through what she has. Her years have twisted her though and she fights all crime with the same brutal force. So beware that she does not find you participating in activities she finds offensive or you may find yourself in one sticky situation.

Hey Guys,

The holidays are a hardtime to work on this stuff but I've put every spare moment I've had. I'll be able to comment more on everyone else stuff more in the coming weeks but for now just enough time to update. Thanks for all your comments past and future.

I'll state now that I've used an imported basemesh which I created a long time ago based off one of those gnomon DVDs(though I do want to state that it is a mesh that I made myself). With time constraints it was easier for me.

I've done the base bodymass blocking. Then I went ahead and used transpose to pose her I'm about 80% on the pose right now so all comments are definitely welcome. Her balance may be a bit off and I'll touch it up some in the morning. As the hands hadn't been fully blocked yet I've left those unposed for the moment but will take care of those when I do my final tweaks.

Very tough time of the year to be working on this stuff, but now that the holidays are over I think we'll all have a bit more time to spend on this stuff. Anyways finally got back to blocking out her face. Its roughed in petty well now and think I 'll move onto the rest of the body and accessories before fleshing it out anymore.

I am a huge fan of Pixar and its works, and I could see 'The Pigeon Lady' winding up in the next Incredibles movie as a villian.

I fleshed out her body to a point where I am now going start adding some clothes(or start her hair), though I might tweak out her pose just a slight bit more. Her forward leg does not seem to carry her weight quite enough for my taste. Opinions on this would be more then welcome.

Hey Guys,

Been awhile and was even warned by aurick I better get my ass moving. Took awhile and a lot of learning as I have never used the retopologize tools before, but I finally got the majority of her clothing subtools setup. The only basemesh I grabbed from maya was the skirt all the others were produced in zbrush as will all the rest of her subtools still needing to be done other then the scarf. I wont go over detailed steps of my process unless you guys really want to see them as you seen it on 50 other models already. I'll be doing more sculpting today and will hopefully have a WIP image for you later tonight.

Went ahead and fixed her pose using Transpose Master should be much more dynamic and balanced now. Have smooth out the mesh issues yet but trying to work very general for now. Comments are welcome.

Hey Guys,

Got the transpose master mess cleaned up, and started the final blocking. Think I may replace the right hand with a zsphere fist. I feel it might be better to deal with it as a solid surface rather then attempt to sculpt and pose the current mesh. Also added the first pass on her hair. Gonna do a cloth drapery pass next and do a layout pass on the shoes. And then onto a finesse pass on the face.

Seems the only time I have to work on is the weekends. Spent some of today really getting to know her face. Think its coming out pretty nice so far still have to do the ears, taking a little more blobbyness out, and the high frequency stuff. Want to have a complete polishing pass on her done by the end of the weekend....

Its the weekend again and that means time to update my action hero. I'm trying to finish all the main sculpting minus the pigeons this weekend. Spent some time trying to get this drapery looking right, not done yet, as its still a little lumpy but I'm happy with the layout of the wrinkles. I'll also add the tailoring details. Hey All,

Time is getting shorter so its time to buck up and start to get this done. I finished the overall basic sculpt on her. She still needs a bunch of details(buttons, shoelaces, flower on hat). And I still need to do a final pass on everything and add the high frequency detail but I'm happy with how she is coming. I plan to work out the pigeons next that way I can put together a final product, then move back to finaling and eventually materials and textures. C + C are more then welcome.

Hey Guys,

Did the zspheres, blocking pass, and rough color pass on pigeons and added them hope you enjoy. Will move onto finishing all the sculpting next. The pigeons are roughly placed and will sit properly after the final sculpt. C+C more then welcome.

Seavannah - I completely agree with you that leg is twisted dont know how I missed it thanks a bunch:D

Hey Guys,

Haven't been able to put much time into her lately as were in crunch at work but I have started to paint textures, work on some materials, and add some details. Still alot to go. Hope to put the finishing push in this weekend leaving only ends to tie up next week. The majority of the work is left in finishing her hair, separating out the eyes, the flower on the hat. and painting textures all around. Followed by what ever set I have time to do. Will make the absolute best of the little time I have left. C +C always welcome.

Hey All,

Painted some of the textures, worked on the materials(though I'm definitely not satified), and put thing in general order. The skin matcap seems too bright for me at this point(if anyone has suggestions or a better skin shader then just plain ol' skin 04 I'll sing you "Wind Beneath My Wings") I still feel alot of tweaking coming on. I hope to also get the environment up and running tomorrow night. As always c + c more then welcome.
