Hero Name - Blabjab (Villian)


The story starts where x-men -the last stand- ended.
Tom Stutson was a scientist (a pretty good cyclist too) who worked on the Island where the big battle ended. His friends called him Blabjab because he was talking/jabbering all the time about nothing. He was a big fan of the x-men, but bad luck struck him that day:

Storm was doing her thing:
creating lightning and stuff to fight Magneto's army...suddenly she got distracted (some people said by a raccoon others said by Blabjab himself who was shouting "Stormmm, stormm..." very loud). She lost control over the lightning she had created...Blabjab got hit by this lightning. Due to the hit of the lightning he lost his left eye and had some severe brain damage which resulted in acute memory loss(see memento but not this extreme).
As a scientist working for the government he had also access to Area51 where he stole stem cells from the alien they kept there(yes it's true). He grew an alien eye from a stem cell and planted it in his own head.
Working as a scientist at Area51 he already knew that the eyes of the alien had hypnotizing powers...
So he thought.."lose some, win some".
After the implant everything looked fine at first sight but after a few minutes he felt that the alien eye drained all of his body energy when he tried to use his new hypnotizing powers...( So he can use his new powers only for a few minutes without getting weak/exhausted(energy loss).

What he did not realize was that the alien eye(the implant) made him slowly evil... One night under influence of the alien eye he rebuilded one of his sleeping socks into a puppet sock named Anton. In dark times when he feels like he is lost and desperate, he put his sock on his hand asks Anton for advise...
So the evil alien(eye) manifest itself thru the pupet sock...(dual/split personality)

The most important message from the alien eye-Anton to Blabjab was...TO KILL STORM...REVENGE...KILL KILL KILL....

To make up his acute memory loss: he stabbed a pen through his nose so he could write down important issues/messages on his body and jacket(whenever he needed to -without forgetting his pen).

When he's not in the mood to kill he likes to listen to his favourite band Ween.

This is one strong character, The acute memory lost remind me briefly about the film, Momento, where the main character has this similar symptom. It must be painful not able to remember.. Will check this thread often for the updates ;)

(and avoiding crazy mirroring effects)

He looks like Feyd (Sting) from the 80s film version of Dune. The 2d concept actually looks like one of the other Harkonens, though, but he wasn't a well known actor so I don't know his name.

My goal today was to find some hair for Blabjab...
The hair I tried first was too rock'n roll for my taste...

Then I had the idea to shape his hair as a robbers sock (he must be bad/evil:lol: )
So I did a paintover in photoshop and tried to sculpt it that way...
Man, I'm tired, must go to sleep...

anyway I'm gonna work some more on his body first

Next I'm gonna give him some kind of suit( but nothing fancy ...he's a villain afterall )
Then a pose, and if everything goes well I make him a coat/jacket.

I retopolized him(removed a lot of edgeloops in his hands and feet so I could put more of them in his face/ears area) I had alot of spikes(in compressed/pinched areas) that I could'nt fix when I used the regular reto/project functions...then I remembered a movie by nickz where he used the "project all" button + a morph target.
That worked out pretty well, have some resculpting to do but hey I'm not complaining.

I had to resculpt his mouth area because the inside of his mouth was exploded after the projection,
but I like this version more... and finally I did a paint over + liquify in photoshop to keep me on track...
The alien eye/shutter is a squashes polysphere...

My goal this time was to find a face/expression for Blabjab...
I came up with this ...I was looking for a bitter and sad image to complement the silly attributes :lol: ...
I worked some more on his body(his navel was placed too low so I move it a little higher but I haven't fixed his abs yet)
and made the base meshes for his clothes. I gave him only 1 sock as in my inspiration picture -see page 1(and fits the memory loss idea).

The first step is maybe not clear: hide all the polys that you don't need, then make polymesh3d.

Did'nt have much time last week...but here's an update :) - these are screengrabs from zbrush no paintovers.
I spend some time creating a skinmaterial that gave me somewhat the same feeling(polypaint) like I do my paintovers in photoshop...
I dropped the shutter for the alien eye 'cause I think it was boring...afterall a hypnotist uses only his eyes and nothing eles like a shutter when he hypnotize someone ...
My overall goal was to translate my paintovers to zbrush...

I hope I have enough time to finish him...next I'm gonna search for a pose ?

Hey Lucky_1 this is seriously one of my favorites in the comp. I love how random and crazy all the elements are coming together. The eyeballs on the sock made me laugh out loud and the red, jelly-like eye is SO creepy. The zits are a nice touch as well. Can't wait to see what you have planned for the pose.

working with transposemaster and recording the process was a frustrating experience ,lot's of lockups etc
the solution was easy(wich I found out a little late -> hit the "initialize zbrush" and start from that canvas.

I tried many poses(lost most of them) but I found that they only had a distracting influence ... I guess I need his attributes like his pen,sock,messages on his body to sell this character. I mean the viewer has to see them in a blink of an eye, otherwise they get lost in the pose.

So I decided to make a very simple pose...I guess I was looking for a serious somewhat powerfull pose that gave me a strong contrast with his silly sock, attributes.

Still a lot to fix(fixed his upperleg already - was disturbing) remade his pants(deleted the polys I did'nt need-> projected it on his body->mask all and extract)
(I painted the base in photoshop.)

Dont have an idea for a pose, but i would like to see him getting up after he had been struck by a huge lightning strike. Smoke rising from the burning embers of his clothing. Standing slumped over bracing himself up with a large piece of debris. His head turned towards the viewer with an evil smile and his eye glowing with alien energy. Night time. Shredded clothes, soot all over from his burned and shredded jacket so we can see the notes written all over his body. You could also have electric sparks in the background to hint at Storm being there.

Hopefully this starts you off in the right direction. Putting your character in the scene of his main challenge or antagonist should help you put everything into place for your pose. Soon as i reread my characters backstory and realized what the greatest moment of action and drama is the whole pose feel into place.
