Hello,

I am new here and ask me some questions:

1. Is there a way to export bitmap images with an alpha channel from ZBrush?

2. Is PSD the only bitmap output format?

3. Why can I not import DXF files creatd with ZBrush directly to Lightwave? In fact, I must convert them to another kind of DXF or to LWO with another program.

Nevertheless I find ZBrush technology is so innovative and friendly !!!
:) :) :)

Kindly yours,
ivan

Welcome to the board :D

1: Not as far as I know. But you could use the MRGBZgrabber to grab an alpha image and the fill the document with it. Then export that image. It will not be a true alpha map of your image, but more of a depth map.

2: No, you can also output .bmp format.

3: I have not tried using DXF with lightwave as I find OBJ format to be much better. OBJ format also includes UV mapping and Lightwave handles it just fine.

Hope that helps.

The depth grab can easily be adjusted in Photoshop to be pure black and white. Simply use Photoshop's Levels adjustment to push all the shades of grey to solid white (basically, you are reducing the number of steps between pure black and pure white to the point that there are only the two colors).

The depth grab can then be used as an alpha mask without trouble.
