11-04-10, 01:16 PM
Wow, Eof, his skin's incredible! Could you share how you've made it? Is it through UVs layed out in Maya with an image map or did you use Zbrush's built-in tools (image plane I think it's called)? Are the bumps in the skins made with surface noise in ZBrush?
Outstanding work!

eof3D
11-04-10, 03:14 PM
aerchov Thank you! Actually there no any small details in geometry. It just a fake coming from diffuse bump+surface noise. More detailed explanation - I'm using DoubleShader with Basic shader in first slot (Color Bump - 1.32 for this one) and skin mimic Matcap in second slot, and plus surface noise in Tool properties. Is it make sense?

Julian_K thank you man!
Eiad Hi! Thank you for comments. In case I dont need highres geometry for normal map baking, I could use just color bump in material properties for small skin imperfections. If I need sculpted pores I'm using dot alpha with spray stroke with great workflow from Rimasson - http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Francois_Rimasson and Keller - http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Eric_Keller. I highly recommend to check it.

once again many thanks for the high rez version.

just to let you know of some of the bizarre happenings with this.

if you bring your hi rez into ZB in the texture palette it comes in @ 32bit , but the orginal file is 16..

but if you convert this via the "make alpha" in the texture pallette it becomes 8bit..

also if you flood your tool with "polypaint from texture" command in the polypaint menu and then try to "mask by intensity" you get the second picture

and finally , if you just import it directly into alpha pallette and then use that as a mask you get the first picture.

well i am glad all of that is sorted.. phew.

i think my brain is starting to melt...

thanks again..ZBrush Document1.jpg ZBrush Document2.jpg

eof3D
02-14-11, 12:59 PM
tyrellcorp I guess that better way will be importing that .psd as alpha and then use this alpha as displacement map as described here -

It's always a pleasure to see the progression of your sculpts. I really feel you've captured the characters core, there's a real sense of weight distribution and balance.

That being said, there's a flatness (or lack of volume) in the back shoulder/neck area that doesn't seem consistent but it is a WIP after all and one I'm becoming quite fond of! :D

Keep us posted!

Piggy Well, at first I make projection of photo texture via zaplink then some PS adjustment and then some over-paint in zbrush via polypainting. It's pretty straight forward. But I have a little trick with eye material. I'm using standard Toy Plastic material but adjust Gel shading slider from 0 to 1 and also adjust ambient, diffuse slider so eyes looks brighter.. and also adjust light position for proper placement of hotspot in eyes. Hope it helps.
