Using Zspheres

Well, I looked for the thread this went with, but I couldn't find it. This was one of Ken Brilliant's tutorials. I followed his instructions and made the octopus, then I made some starfish and a squid. I also made the plants from some zspheres. The background was a plane3D. I wanted to use some alpha brushes to paint some frothy looking white here and there, but I couldn't seem to do it. No matter what color I picked, it still painted blue. I was on the correct layer and I even tried baking it. So why couldn't I paint on the layer? Thanks.

Did you make sure that you had RGB turned on in the Draw palette? If not, then you were probably just painting with material.
