its just a box and divided for several times ...,
i created with symmetrical box and twisted the head after get some certain details (so its actually not twisted in the beginning)

u mean the sponges?
I use standard brush for that no special brush or something
it is subtle details, but just need time to do it.
first make some radial sketch following the circle with zsub
then start to put the detail on it.
also, material with cavity will help to see the detail deeper/sharper
so you can use the material i attach here ..
for the component i use other program,
its my experiment for project all, I tried to project all several mesh i made in xsi into one object, but i ended up cleaning lots of exploding meshes
after finished cleaning up I add the small details in zbrush
