Just wonderful¡¡ and so meticulous, detailed and elegant work
Congratulations
as usual a high quality image! :tu: :tu:
But to be honest, I like the the monochrome version more.
It is not only the different color. I´ve put the two images side by side and compared them. Its only my subjective oppinion, but the shadows in Scarab1, especially in the face, look smoother and and give the image a better (for me!) atmosphere. There are other details, like the eyes and the background that hardens me in my oppinion.
Nevertheless, it is an amazing image!
greets!
fantastic work, love the detailed textures .
i have a question ...do you snapshot all the pieces before painting/texturing ?
Thanks.

Reactor : He's not your commonergarden hero
,I'll give you that! ;)
nAÄAx :The blood was partly modeled and painted in zbrush. Then touched up and added to in Photoshop.
The Image was Mangula.Link: (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=011364)
The Magazines were DigitalDesign and CGWorld China.
froyd :There's strong pionts in both images ..I personally prefer this one ,for color and composition.
s borg : I keep the parts of the image that need diffrent textures ,ect...on diffrent layers so I can editing ,paint them when and where needed.... up to the piont where I'm satisfied.
Thankyou all for the inspiring feedback ,
much appreciated !
Steve.

Stevie, :tu: :)
Many or most of the scarab species perform the important job of recycling the dung of mammals, birds, and reptiles. I have read that if there were no scarab or dung beetles, the earth would soon be covered with dung to the point of the destruction of large portions of the eco-sphere. (Is this earth Designed?)
I assume the function of this hero is to 'recycle' the human 'dung' that roams the city streets.

Jaycephus : :tu: :) Nice Metaphor!
But this guy is not from that group.
He 's from the eat no **** group !
A bit of Scarab history:
In Egyptian they were reveared as a holy creature, and worshiped as an embodiment of thier sun god Amen Ra.
The symbol of the scarab, is a symbol of immortality and was believed to
bring good fortune and keep away evil.
There are 30,000 diffrent spieces of scarab in the world.
Does this guy look like he eats ****! :D

Hi Mike, Stevie,
You're right, Stevie, I looked up Hercules beetles on the net. There are all kinds of scarabs, some of which eat nectar or the flowers, bark, sap, decaying wood or fruit, and dung.
Hercules beetles have been observed to eat bark, fallen fruit, and sap.
Mike, dung beetles belong to the family Scarabaeidae and are also known as scarabs. They are scavengers, which feed on dung and other decaying organic matter, and are invaluable in keeping the earth clean. The ancient Egyptians revered them as a symbol of renewed life, regeneration, and ressurection. Many of the Egyptian carvings and jewelry of scarabs also show or incorpoarate a circle or sphere between the front two legs of the beetle.

All dung beetles are scarabs, but not all scarabs are dung beetles.
