View Full Version : Goblin in a Jade Goblet (Update 4/26/2003 - 121 Welcome)

The goblet was made using different combinations of row and column selection masking. I have enclosed a ZScript showing the techniques used to make the goblet.
The coins were made from a flattened head, imported Elefont lettering and a flattened and modeled Spherinder3D mult-marked and polymeshed together.
The goblin was made from several different modelled object placed onto the canvas, rather than one object.
Here's the ZScript for the goblet:

Wow... that's one cool pic. Love it, and thanks for the tute :)
Great picture WingedOne, I really like the colors and setup in this. If I had to say something it would be that the coins seem too thick, but only slightly. Like it alot :tu: :tu:

Hi Winged the one
Perfect ! Very funny
Maybe the eyes more explicit because they seem curious bulging
And more light on the right one :)

:) very funny and well done, color, composition and model!winged one, if i change something, but that's personal, not sure, i add a fourth finger, even small, cause i'm slightly disturbed by the 3fingers hands;( but i don't know goblins, maybe they are in the disney standard,); the blur, and opposite the very firmly hair, is really pleasure! friendly M.

Wow, that's great. I don't think those coins are too thick at all. Much like British pound coins. :D

You know WO, when I first saw this my first thought was one of those old Vue Master toys that looked like binoculars and you woudl place a disc in it that was full of little slides that you could view in 3d. Though the little guy in the goblet is comical, he still has a great sense of realism to him, due to the depth, great modeling and lighting and excellant choice of materials used throughout the image. The grain in the wood stood out to me. To me, those coins are top notch also. All elements making this picture very believable, not to mention that wonderful goblet itself. Outstanding job and I honestly dont have anything to 1 2 1 you about on this. :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: x10

Thank you for the script, it was very easy to follow. I really like the material on the goblet. How did you do the little circles with the jewels on the base?

Hi Ringbearer,
I had forgotten to do the part with the circles on the base when I recorded the ZScript for the goblet.
I didn't record a ZScript for the original goblet so I had to do another ZScript from scratch.
To do the circles on the base I set ZAdd to a low value, I think to around ten and set radial symmetry on the Z-axis to 8 and then just drew them in on the model using a small brush size and circular strokes. It took me a couple of tries to get it right, though.

Here's the latest update, I added some more details to the goblin such as a little more color variation and a few wrinkles here and there as well as some additional background detail.
As always, 121 welcome.

Hi, Pigma. :)
Here's a link to a thread relevant to your question about the goblin skin material:
http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010026&p=
On page 5 of that thread is a tri-shader and quad-shader material that pixolator made that you can download from there.
Also, here's the modified tri-shader material that I used for my goblin.
Especially check out the settings I used for the diffuse graph for each channel as well as the colorize diffuse settings I used for channels S2 and S3.
goblinskin.zip (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200305/user_file-1051456776jio.zip)
Also these types of materials look best when soft shadow rendering is used.
Thank you very much, Wingedone. :) :)
My problem was solved by your favor. :) :tu:
Please make a wonderful work from now on. :tu: :tu:
I also do my best. :D :tu:
Hi WingedOne,
I loaded up your goblin skin material and was instantly/temporarily blinded. ;) I then realized to turn down ambience after loading other materials and staring at the thumbnail a little bit, but it still seems too bright and blazed.. The diffuse settings are not taking their intended effect I'm afraid. (Or one of the channels isn't loaded, I don't know for reference where the warmer color should go is instead a whitish gray.)
Are there some independant settings we should use?
WingedOne

For the object that uses that material, I painted a flesh-colored tone on the object which is independent of the material.
Also, did you use soft-shadow rendering? Without shadows this type of material comes out very bright. Also, the ambient light settings were set to zero in the lighting pallette for my image.
Maybe that'll help.

What a fun character! Looking at this image is pure joy WO!
Yes, thanks for the tips and the great plastic type skin material WingedOne, I think after playing with the lights it made a huge difference in renders. Amazing, I didn't think turning on soft shadows and increasing rays to 152 would make such a big difference. I've also learned something new. :)
