:b3:This can either be a completed image
with lighting, best rendering and background or Thumbnail
concepts. Take it as far as you wish yet keep it pretty original.

:b3:Can use any and all native zbrush
tools for both 2D and 3D. Zscripts like Zsketcher are acceptable
as well.

:b3: Must be new works...no recycling!

Thats it.

Good Luck and Happy ZBrushing!

Well, this is semi-on-semi-off topic, but wouldn't Noba's Z Slasher (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=011936) work pretty well in this contest?

great challenge and fantastico entries uptonow - thats one fabulous inflateable, Ed :)

heres "my" idea/wip, shamelessly abusing a few of pixologics official icons: P. Xol alias *-xol, z-artist. (argh! that star should read as the greek letter pi (or is it pee in english :D), the one we know from mathematics and suchlike)

preliminary sketch made at office  this morning with ballpen

http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/juandel/pxolsketch.jpg

+ first tries at modelling:

http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/juandel/pxol1.jpg

hopefully to be updated within time (as long as challenge is up) - but as time once again is a mucho scarce resource these days for me and being a bad modeller myself i’d love to see someone "pick" that "idea" and finish it ;)

This is "Zanzibar the ZBrush Zonkey." A Zonkey is a real animal, a cross between a Zebra and a Donkey, in case you had never heard of one. The model is zspheres, the BG is just shapes and terrains, edited and deformed. To quote Zanzibar, "ZeeHaw!".

Well, meet ZDUDE!

He is the only maskot I could get in short notice...and with the last 5$ I had in my pocket...

He is a 50 year old surfer CrAcK head, who loves colors, and he also said he liked ZBRUSH... Hope he qualifys...

Umm do the maskots have to go thru drug testing to qualify?

The Z is a MMed object done in z...I imported the font for the word brush and for the 1.55b both in as textures and changed them to alphas, then Z i fied them...all materials zbrush...the head is a recent female head that I thought fit my idea...and no blood this time... :) The blue bar is a 3d cube deformed...thanx for looking....I also see we have some very interesting critters around here on the thread...very kewl stuff yall.

Well, I decided that someone should give busy Juandel a chance to see his excellent idea, (See Page 1 Of This Thread), in here, and since I haven't ever done one of these challenges, I thought, 'Why the hell not?' :D

So...This has my name on it, but it's Juandels' model, in the beginning of being 'Miguel-ized', and the finished piece will be from both of us...He has encouraged me to finish the idea, and I am honored to collaborate with my Austrian Amigo!

(And I'm posting the WIP sketch, because this thread seems to have dropped off the map, and I don't want people to miss the opportunity to contribute, because they didn't see it... :D  )

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200309/user_image-1063932218hfe.jpg

EDIT: This is an update...The sketch in the background is Juandels, and is the guide for the scene. This has NO modelling done yet, and is just carefully placed ZSpheres, with an Adaptive Skin, 2 Density, and 'CSkin' on. All other settings are in default, and I don't save these skins, just the ZSphere tools. A new skin can always be made from this ZTL, and you can save different versions of ZTL with different poses, since these files are so small... ;)

very nice gesture, michael. and a good start with the figure. hope you make it in time ;)

Stonecutter
09-22-03, 06:18 PM
Well, looks like I get this in under the wire, but it feels a little lonely in here..
Anyway, this is based on Juandels' idea on page one, and I started with his model there...The painting is one of my favorite paintings of all times here, Juandels 'Rein-Bats', done a couple of Christmases ago...He was kind enough to send me the BMP file of the painting, which I treasure, and the Lady Simone has it at her place of employ, under her transparent desk protector, where it has cheered her days there for years!...I encourage you to track down the original thread to see this wonderful painting in greater detail. All I can say is that anyone who can come up with 'Rein-Bats' is my kind of people!

So, although it is nowhere near the intent of Juandel as expressed in his original idea, here's my 'Miguel-ization' of his idea, and my suggestion for 'Unofficial Mascot'...

Zee Brush

... :D
(I was actually thinking of George Pal, and his 'Puppetoons' when I did this, so he ended up less human, more brush. )

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200309/user_image-1064279897vzd.jpg

No modelling was done in a conventional sense...Just skinned Adaptive ZSpheres, and painting...

(And OF COURSE I kept the Rein-Bats...I burnt them their own CD in fact... :tu: )

And thanks to everyone else who enjoyed my journey into nostalgia...I have a BETA tape of the most classic George Pal animation, which I have yet to convert to a digital media, and I think this piece has encouraged me to get on with that...

Great entries everyone :tu:

I've always been a fan of the MNC because they have forced and inspired me to think up and complete an image within a deadline. Thanks to those who organise them :tu:

Stonecutter: I really like what you've done with Juandel's model. It reminds me of the logo of the art supply shop my friend's parents own. Unfortunatly they ditched that logo a while ago, but it was of three cartoon characters (a pencil, a brush and ? - memory! ) running along pell-mell. I used to stocktake for them as a kid and indulge in touching the paper, sniffing the wood of the pencils and putting little dents in the big tubes of oil paint :D

Strange the things that trigger nostalgic reveries. That'll be a thank you then for helping me to remember something that had entered the 'taken for granted' basket ;)

Stonecutter
09-23-03, 02:53 PM
And thank you B/C for sharing a wonderful memory... :D
It's wonderful indeed that we can be led down these paths to the past, by synaptic stimuli caused by seemingly unrelated subjects...Juandel posts the beginning of a model, I take that and abuse it into my nostalgic posting, you see it, and take me into a fascinating stockroom filled with the toys all artists love...

Now THAT is synchronicity! ;) :D

That's a cool pic Stonecutter, you've got a funky mascot style- looks like Christmas has come early. :)
