View Full Version : Multiple characters WIP
I've allways wanted to do multiple full bodied characters in Zbrush but have yet to do even one. So I am jumping straight into the deep end here and aiming for a body count of at least 10 :)
I thought I would post this head which will be the basis of the majority of the characters, and hope for some feedback, 121 most welcome.

The head is in the prelimenary modelling phase and will get some more details before I start to divide certain areas, for adding small details.
Right now there is no texturing and only two materials(eye and head) so he looks a little bland. All the colors come from a 3 point light setup (2 front suns, 1 back sun),a little material noise and render adjustments. I've found that at 640x480, a rays setting of 10-20 is sufficient for any shadows with Aperture below 40-50. Higher rays seem to be overkill. The above pic had Rays at 20 and Aperture at 35
Thanks for looking.

Wonderful Model TVeyes...And what a wonderful material/lighting/render setup too.
Excellent work man!! :tu: :tu: :tu:
Thanks MTB :), I'll post the Material/Light settings later if anyone is interested.
This project is slowly (very slowly) evolving. Did some more modeling on the head, decided not to divide it and instead practice getting sharper edges using the editing modes and selections. Worked fine IMO. The helmet continues to be modelled from the same Sphere3D as the head. Lighting setup is nearly the same as before, slight adjustment in one of the lights angle and the material is the same.
Not very pleased with the eye sockets but placing actual eyes into them might help that. And these creatures are not going to be viewed up close so everything "should" be fine ;) (crosses fingers).
After I did a little test scene I worked out that the weapons don't need to have elaborate details but more clearly defined areas and forms ( so as to easier define them as weapons from a distance). Spear and axe is made from three objects each (not yet multimarked) and the scimitar is made from Zspheres, with inspiration from one of Auricks threads. Some would call it a fairly wicked Cricket bat, I call it a scimitar :D
121, critiques or just comments about the head or weapons most welcome.

One again man, Wicked awesome!!!
Oh yeah, OF COURSE I AM INTERESTED!..lol
The head lighting in the second setup looks even better!
Oh please... :D ;)
Way to go man. Keep up the good work! :tu:
hi tveyes, a wonderful phantasyful head you have. will give a great crowd.
what kind of material do you used for the blade on the very left ? this looks very real.

That looks like a pretty good bone material.
:tu:
Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.
Here is the material for the head and the lighting setup. However, in the setup above there were also changes made to the Render ::Adjustment curves. A little bit additive blue on the right side of the curve and a little additive red on the left side of the curve.

Kokoro: The blade used a Basic Material with a fairly high High Dynamic Range setting and a low diffusion setting. I think the reason why it turned out so "good" is because the blade itself was faceted and the 3 point lighting did the rest. I don't have the document anymore so can't give you materials/lighting, sorry.
ps. Sorry for taking so long to respond.
:tu: :tu:
Great job so far. Can't wait for more!
ah thank you tv-eyes, that already helps me further enough !

TVeyes,
the material in the zip file appears to be a flat color material. It doesn't work. :(
What do you mean Jay? Don't you have any use for another flat color shader? :D Sorry about that, don't know what happened  I've updated the above link so it should be fine now. Btw, the material works best with the included lighting setup. It's nothing special but just what I seem to be using more and more in my pics.
Thanks for the heads up Jay :tu:
It's been a while but I finally got back to this $&€!!# project :) Just a quick test for a four legged mount. The creature was modelled while still in Zphere form so all the final details will come when it has been posed. The head and muscle structure on the legs need defining and the hands/feet are going to be changed slightly.
I'm working on the body of the "evil" guys and will probably start building the environment right after that. It is going to be a battle scene :p
121 on both creatures are very much welcome.

And here (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200308/user_file-1057786047jvz.zip) is the above creature in Zsphere form. Hit the 'a' key while in edit mode to view the preliminary modelling.

hi Tv
Your creature seems caught cold :D
Pilou
Thank you Andreseloy. I've been watching your postings and you seem to be progressing fast. Keep it up :tu:
Hi Matvara, nice to see another scandinavian user. Far to many French, German, English and American users on the forum, it's an outrage I tell you :) Tak fordi du kiggede. Håber du har det sjovt med Zbrush og hvis du har nogle spørgsmål må du meget gerne maile mig. Vi skandinaver må stå sammen ;)
I finished modeling the head and left it in a neutral expression (Does he still have a cold Frency? :) ) Also defined the muscles on the backlegs but I can't decide if it looks okay or not. So I would really like some feedback on the backlegs, I know it is just the one view but any comments are most welcome.

Nearly finished the body of the "evil guys", made a couple more weapons, a palisade and did a couple of tests on the environment. So despite it being 28 degrees outside I am actually making progress on this project. At last :)
excellent four legs creature.
nice creature love the details

"Vi skandinaver må stå sammen"
We scandinavians must stand together?
I recognise it from my own language Afrikaans, but also from Dutch.
We would say: Ons Skandinawiers moet saamstaan. My forefathers are from there.
Greetings. I haven't been here for a long time.

This model consist of exactly one Zsphere tool, and I must still figure out how to render it.

Excellent lizard creature TV Eyes, it reminds me of the creatures from the Spy Kids trailer.

Hei igjen TVeyes :)
your creature is evolving, to the better of course. About legs? I think they look ok.
Oh my, oh my, TVeyes, we are exposed, He Andreas managed to break up our secret code and brought it to the open. We need to go undergroung for a while and maybe fix some new alias and nicks. This Z-project is way too important we can't take any chances :)
Hei Andreas, you are hereby invited, threatend, bribed and/or tempted to join us, even if you are living in another country.
Nice to here from you Andreas. Nice model too. I can't wait to see some textures on it.
;)
Your right Matvara, I feel uneasy that he can read our code (and also slightly impressed). Some new communication is clearly needed, preferably one that can only be encoded/decoded via a Zscript available to you and I only :D "Us Scandinavians must stand together" was said entirely in jest, in case anyone was wondering :) I'm 100% anti nationalistic ;)
Thanks for the comments everyone , I really appreciate it :tu:

"you are hereby invited, threatend, bribed and/or tempted to join us, even if you are living in another country"
That is a slogan from the Vikings of old?!
Anyway, thanks I'm writing this on my flying machine on my way to Kopenhagen!
"Some new communication is clearly needed, preferably one that can only be encoded/decoded via a Zscript available to you and I only"
Try the Finnish language. Only you will understand that!
I must still learn how to use TextureMaster before I can complete that model. But I must say I've seen some nice art and also very good software/websites from Skandinawie.
Pixolator must also be from that nick of the woods I think. :)

Shalom Andreas;
Very smart remarks from someone who once
WAS a viking, (make it a capital V, if youwill). ;) ;) ;)
Try the Finnish language. Only you will understand that!
I could laugh for hours by that remark, no offence to dear finnish people. You have a
bright sense of houmor. Beside nice Z-works.
Hope to see some more soon.
TVeyes, hei again, and thanks for your repost.
Shouldwe really consider Andreas advice?
He has got a point there! :D
Ha en trivelig sesjon med Zbrush. Snakkes snart. :)
