Greeting,
I am a ultra-newbie to this forum here.
But I have to admit Zbrush is the finest tool for sculpture yet.
I have been using it for 3 days.
Here's the old man I made for school's project.

Can someone pls tell me how to subdivide in Zbrush? I know you have to mask certain area first, but I don't know anything else.

Comments are welcome

welcome newbie...heres your answer.. if you know how to mask something than your on the right track.. you can find the divide button in tools/mod/deform panel... thats it...just mask the area you wish to sub divide and click divide in the deform panel..if you want more info on this subject visit the quicklinks above...

Actually, it's 1) Mask the area that you wish to divide, 2) Invert the mask (in the Tool:Modifiers:Selection menu), and 3) click the Divide button. All deformations, including Divide, function only on the unmasked parts of your model.

For a hint that will help you with this current character, try now hollowing out the eye areas (leaving just a bit of the current eye's edges as eyelids). Then create the eyes on a new layer. This way, you can easily use a different material for them, and can also have greater control over their coloring. It's also much easier to add shadows and stuff to them without having to worry about accidentally painting the skin in the process.

Some good advice for the lips and mouth area is to observe pixolator's modeling scripts that come with ZBrush and observe carefully how he does mouths.

I'd try to describe it, but I think his scripts show better how to do it then I can word it.

Thanks for the advice, you all

But I think I am having some weird problems.
Like I masked it, inverted the area,
when I click divide. it want me to enter a number.
say I entered 20 and click enter.
Nothing happened. What should I do?
is it a bug?

Thank you all

I never had Divide ask me for a number. Are you sure you're using the "Divide" button listed under the deformations sub-pallette of your tool pallette?

you are very close jack, just click on the deformation panel ( it should be just under the divide button you used). Once this panel is open, you should see another divide button on the bottom of the list

Thanks for the tip , I will try again.
And post the complete character when I am finish.

By the way, I am using max as well.
I export the model and import it into max.
Can the texture be export and use in Max too?

It would sure save lots of time.

Maybe someone should write a tutorial for the connection.
