These are some renders from a character I am currently working on titled INVADER-Z. This is just a prototype as I have not yet settled on the final form (I probably have 7 or 8 versions now) so please excuse the poor modeling. The thing I wanted to point out was the materials. The materials in these images were created from modified CHOCOLATE material which is located in your Materials folder and was installed when you installed 1.51 The brilliance is achieved through adjusting the HDR settings, diffuse, and illumination settings on the material. I will post the materials later on. I was mainly trying to achieve a high shine chrome and yellow plastic look. It is fun messing with the materials......

Very sweet! Those materials look awesome! I have not had much time to mess with materials, but after viewing yours, I think it is time to check out what those materials can do.
Thanks for the tips

That's a GREAT material variation Lonnie!
It is the most definitely high-tech, impervious to the elements plastic material I have encountered! ;) :D

Wonderful Stuff !! :tu: :tu: :tu:
Those materials really look great, and I like the modelling as well :tu:
Well there's just no excuse for poor modeling. :p I'm just a little confused as to which one of these you are referring to-a little help here please-I think they are fine.

I'll be looking forward to your updates. I like the yellow plastic material you created for these. :)
I have to say that when playing with the diffuse graph and soft shadows that the materials end up looking a lot like some sub-surface scattering rendering tests I've seen. :)
Here's a sample:

Thanks for the great link reference, Winged One...That's amazing rendering...!
I have to agree with you on the fun of material tweaking, Lon! I've got about a hundred that I've "created" myself, some that I never even used. What sparks my curiosity is that wonderful ground texture in #2, and the reflections you got...What material and how did you do the reflections? I know there are a million ways to do them, I'm just wondering what method you used here.
Thats brilliant Lonnie. The materials have a solid 'it's really there' quality that I have only seen Pixolator achieve so far. The plastic material looks especially great, YOu could almost pass it off as a car material.
I'm still looking for the poor modeling. And while I'm looking, perhaps you could tell me how you got that wonderful look of the coil like things inside those transparent arms. It may take me a while to understand, but since the poor modeling appears to be hiding from me, I figure I've probably got the time while I look for it.
Thanks.
Oh, yeah, and while you're at it, how did you create that really cool reflective look. I should do such poor modeling!

Ok Ok! Let me qualify the statement. By poor modeling I mean I didn't pay much attention to detail as I was more interested in putting the figure together to try out the materials. I normally wouldn't post something like that but I wanted to share the material stuff. Now in my mind the modeling is poor or sloppy because of that. I didn't put much work into it so to my hypercritical self analyzation it is poor. :)
By the way as promised here are the materials:

Thanks Mentat!
I must say that those materials really look very believable and trully beautiful!
I'm going to put that material to good use in my next model (Car)
Thanks again buddy, I cant wait to see this completed.

Flycatcher, you can get the plugin at www.flamingpear.com (http://www.flamingpear.com) on their products page. The plugin alone is $20 they may have it as a bundle too although I haven't checked. The plugin is callled Flood. :tu:

Thanks Mentat. I didn't realise it was available separately and wasn't sure how easy it would be to spot the bundle containing it. Maybe another addition to my collection of their plugins.
Thanks again. :)
