View Full Version : Eyes make a difference
I was just fooling around with a head modeling session and realized that I usually stop short of putting in some eyes. I thought this face looked angry before I put the eyes in. Then after it seemed much softer. This is just a quick example of how eyes change the look of a face ;)

That's an excellent modeling job, Zoid. And those eyes! So very real and striking. They definitely make a difference in the face.
This is an awesome character.

Hi Zoid,
Some great modelling going on there. I like the flesh colouring....the mouth area in particular is bloody well modelled. Yep you are right about the eyes...in fact brown would soften it more and add a little mystery. Although blue seems to suit the expression the countenance holds.
More.....please :tu: :tu: :tu:

Thank you to everyone for the very encouraging remarks. I would like to answer EZ's question and share some tips to those who may be interested and would benefit from them.
The edge glow in the image above comes from a combination of fog settings, light settings, and a little shading enhancer and blur brush. My first example shows the fog settings. You know that you can click and drag to set the front and back fog settings. In the past I used to make the background the back setting, but recently I tried setting it at the back edge of the object. Big difference!

I make the front fog color light and the back fog color dark to enhance the sense of depth and fog falloff.
The next effect is to create an edge light. I mentioned this tip a while ago and I wanted to bring it up again. You can make a "sun" light into a "back" light by clicking on the little gray position marker in the preview panel without moving it. This will toggle the light from being infront to being behind and seeming to skim across the surface of the object and giving a nice rim light effect.

If you colorize this rim light in coordination with the fog color you can get a very realistic edge glow effect. Once the settings are good you can bake the layer to preserve the look, but be sure to turn off the fog before baking. After baking turn the fog back on and use the shading enhancer brush, highlighter brush, glow brush, and/or the blur brush to enhance the effect. Hope this all makes sense. Have fun :)
