Hi,
I have this shape and mask (modified from the marble column zscript by Pixolator):

Of course, sizing up results in this:

But I would like to have the alpha mask apply only to the exterior of the tube, not the interior.
Likewise, if I want a 'rifled tube' for a gun-barrel, I want the mask to apply only to the interior, not the exterior:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The best way, would probably to just draw the mask on manually on the areas you don't want affected by the deformation.
Yep! Once a mask has been applied mathematically like you did here, you can also continue to manually paint the mask in special cases like this. You do this by holding down the Ctrl key -- changing your cursor color to show that you're in masking mode.

Hi guys,
I forgot to mention that I tried that, but if I totally mask off the outside by hand, the inside is also totally masked off. I don't know if it is supposed to bleed through from one side to the other like that, or if there is a setting somewhere that can prevent that.
Or does the draw size need to be smaller than the thickness of the cylinder?
UPDATE: Yes, it is Draw Size that was getting me. Reduced draw size does not 'bleed' through to the inside or vice versa.
Thanks,

As you can see, I was able to do some painting on the part to edit the original alpha. In order to get the gear just right, I took the edited alpha into PS and copied and fliped the rounded ends so that I didn't have to hand draw the rounded ends. Worked perfectly, mainly because the new gear texture has grooves that are exactly half as tall as the orginal column texture created by Pixolator, so it was very easy to edit in PS.

Great to see a problem and a solution in the same thread, J-Man! ;)
Nice solutions at the end too! :D
