I now have a hand, (thanks to zspheres). I could begin detailng fingernails in another program, but I was wondering if this could be done in Zbrush? I'd prefer it to be another object separate from the hand mesh . The reason is for texturing and rendering in another program. In a perfect world, I'd just model a nail, and press it onto the model, sort of like using zadd/zsub except the object would interact with the model. (V2 Pixolator?) With Zbrush would it be the an appropriate to model them seperate and bring them together. I'll have to read up on how to do that, but I understand that you can have Seperate 3D objects in the same space. I can't believe i'm not an expert at this after 8 hrs..

P.S. I ran this test rendering in c4d on an 3d alpha, I know, it's not really anything, I was working on textures, exporting/importing,and seeing how "real" I could get it..Gawd I love jaggie edges.. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1033972239ptr.jpg

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but here is a fingernail study I did a while back.
