View Full Version : Driftwood Seascape .
This is a Sunday afternoon session. The gulls are from ETA's tool. The Pelican was done with spraybrush at a small size, Drift wood was created on a black background saved and imported as a texture. rocks were done with the Depthbrush. Other items were done as described in the QuickLinks.

Nice work, Joe. The pelican looks really good, and the driftwood works very well - ditto sky and sea as usual. :tu: :tu: :tu:
The only thing I would change is the largest of the three gulls. His head-down vertical pose looks a bit stiff and unnatural, especially compared to the way you have caught the pelican.
Thanks FC, the reason behind that posing was that the gull was in a dive for fish.from what I remember that is how they prepare for a dive. However, if you think it is off I will change it in my update.
DeeVee,
Joe.

I like the driftwood...and the birds are a nice touch ....on the river here I will fish all around a driftwood pileup...the fish love to hang close to that overhead cover....pulled some nice catfish out that way...and yes Joe, fishing fever is starting to hit me hard here lately...havent been all summer...something about spending all my time zbrushing..snicker...soon though...very soooon.......I have alot of bait still in the freezer ready to thaw out and rock and roll... ;)
Great job Dee, the driftwood is so real
very nice.
Nice Picture DeeVee :)
and by god let the birdy dive for fish ;) - it gave the picture some dynamics.
:tu:
It just shows that different people see things differently! I did not mind changing the image at all. Let the viewers decide which one they prefer.

I like both images DeeVee. Either gives me a sense of badly needed peace. So, Thank you for that gift.

Definitely the second for me, Joe - a nice update. My problem with the first version was that having once spotted what IMHO was something that did not quite fit with the rest of the picture, I found my eye being drawn to that area rather than the true primary focus of the pelican. Seems much better balanced now. But as you say, so much is in the eye of the beholder. :tu: ;) :tu:
Thanks again folks. FC, the reasoning behind in the first image was to indicate the presence of fish. Usually where there are Pelicans and gulls there is usually fish schools around. The gull in it's dive posture was to further reinforce this idea. I can understand your reasoning from an artistic viewpoint, but in reality this is how they behave. I sit for hours watching them go through this motion, funny they very seldom miss! nature never fails to amaze me
As far as the driftwood, one bit was done on a black background, imported as a texture on a 3dplane with dragrect and turned, pushed and pulled into different positions and moved about to get that effect :ex:
