I'm trying to gather some reference material for reptiles, most notably horned rattlesnakes and was wondering if anyone out there had any herpetological(sp?) reference material they may have found useful. I'm looking for side profiles and front views and have found quite a few pieces of reference material, though nothing that would work well for Image Plane reference.
As you may have guessed, I'm going to attempt a sculpt of one of these beasties and would like these for doing the head. I figure, what better way to get a handle on ZSpheres than a coiled snake. :)
Anyone know of any books, illustrations, etc. that might help in this regard?
Thanks,

Some reference material i've found. Still looking for a good set of orthographic illustrations, but these'll help get me on my way.
Wikipedia link with some information on Kraits. A good illustration at the bottom of the page,

Deviantart.com always has some nice reference material. I can't believe some people actually keep them as pets... but whatever... keep takin pictures of them for me :)

I spent some time in the main library tonight gathering reference material for American Rattlesnakes. I found a few others that i liked and gathered them up too. I'm currently putting together image planes and reference materials i plan on using when I get going. I'll provide them here with a complete list of sources for credit, If anyone is interested.
Last count i had upwards of 10 or so detailed image planes of American Rattlesnake heads and some mexican and central american "crotalids" (rattlesnakes).
I'm currently working on getting some of the skull sketches to position right. The profile doesn't seem to match the top view so i have to play with the scaling and rotation to get those right. They just don't play as nice as the sketches for the actual heads themselves.
Let me know if anyone's interested in seeing any of this, and I'll host it.
Thanks,

glad they're of use. I'm finishing up the formatting on some of the sketches to be used as image planes as well as gathering materials on Chinshield and Brow scale differentiation between species. These differentiations manifest more as areas where scales are different, rather than actual different scales. Knowing this can really help a modeler pull off realistic scales on sculpts.
I will be finishing up these image planes tonight as well as packaging up all the scans i have, putting some bibliographic information in the scans folder, and pulling down the last few pieces i need to grab for the scale coloration and texture.
After that, i'll be zipping it up and posting it here.
I just got into work right now, so figure about 12'ish or so hours before i can get all that done
After that, i'll have a "WIP" thread and link this one as my reference thread.
