I did a trade a while ago and got some frequent flyer points on a wax printer.
I didn't have time to build a figure from scratch so I went from Poser to Zbrush to 3D print. Still had a lot of finishing to do but it is always great to do a figure this way. I like sculpting for real more.

Those are the most popular 3D-Printer available. It's like an ink jet printer, using wax or a polymer to build a model layer by layer. You can send your ZBrush model to one of the people offering a service, and they can 'print' the model and send it back to you as a real model which you can touch and play with.

The wax printers are very expensive, excruciatingly expensive, while the polymer printers are cheaper, but the results require a lot of work if fine surface finish is desired. However, both are working faster than an artist.

IN any case, I tried to figure out how much they cost and since then am haunted by annoying sales forces from both companies and their entire dealer network. I recently had to decline the request from one of them to rent my garage to open a sales office to serve my proposal needs better... ;)

IMHO all the printers are way overpriced and I bet that in a couple of years we all (sculpting maniacs) will have one on our desks. China will take care of the price... Sooner or later...
