Ok, here we go...
Thanks to Digits ZSpherescript I was able to align the spheres perfectly on the Z-Axis, which is quite important if you want to continue to model in another Application.

So, first I roughed out the shape of the character with ZSpheres.

I played around with the spheres and then created an adaptive skin.

Then, after exporting as Wavefront obj file, I imported it into the modeller and cleaned up the mesh. Most work was needed on the joints of the wings and for the skin of the wings. The mesh for head, body and legs is not reworked so far and the model is still a subpatch model with just a couple of hundreds polygons.

Now I could freeze the model and re-import it to ZBrush to add details... Or maybe continue modeling in Lightwave and then bring it back for texturing to ZBrush.

I have ZBrush for about a week now, but I start to love this program!!!!

Nice work P/W, and interesting to see the interaction of the different applications... :)

Phillip,

What settings are you using in ZBrush to export into Lightwave? Did you triangulate the mesh at any point? Can you post a screengrab of what the model mesh looked like before and immediately after export.

Also, if you get around to it, please try and give your model a simple skeleton, pose it, then try and import back into ZBrush.

Right now, I'm still using the 1.23b demo and would be thrilled to see if something like this is relatively simple to achieve.

Nice work!

Thanks.

Thanks for the nice comments :)

Denture Dream:
I didnt triangulate the adaptive skin, simply exported it as obj with quads. Later in Lightwave I had to flip all polygons.
If you take a close look to the pic with the adaptive skin, you can see the vertices, but I'll post the two screengrabs tonight when I'm back home.

I plan to add bones to the model and try to animate it, but first I want to finish modelling (at least head and legs).
As long as the model bends nicely in Layout, it should be no problem to re-import it to ZBrush, as I can save the subdivised model from Layout. If I remember right, it will be triangulated then... But not sure, 'cause I did it just once for a test.

The workflow is relativly simple, believe me :) To be honest, this and the possibility to texture a model easily with Texture Master were the reasons why I bought ZBrush!

Ok, Denture cream, I promised you to post the screengrabs :)

First, the mesh in ZBrush:

and here the Mesh directly after importing:

Yupp, it gets a great base for further modeling!

Hope this helps you with your desicion of upgrading. Still thinking? Uhm.... what are you waiting for??

Hey Phillip,

That modelling looks pretty good! :)

However, did you know that a similar effect can be produced completely in Zbrush?

Take a look at my thread called ZSPHERE WING EXAMPLES.

You'll get a pretty good idea of what I mean. :D

Philipp,

Thank you for the screen grabs. I think I'm on my way to ZBrush 1.5! :D

ZB2 deformed sections of my model after I used LW to add bones and then alter the pose.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

I've posted details here: http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=001767
