When using the Unified skinning method, ZBrush analyzes the relative sizes of ZSpheres. If a sphere is too small in relation to the others, it is basically lost.

You could redesign the mesh by removing those spheres on the chest and then using Adaptive skinning. This lets you preview the mesh by pressing the A key while you work. You can sculpt the chest detail after skinning.

Alternatively, increase the size of any spheres that are becoming "lost" when skinned using the Unified method.

You might want to download the ZSpheres page of the Quick Reference Guide. You'll find it in the New Users or the Version 1.55b section of the QuickLinks (click the link at the top right corner of any page here at ZBC).

I believe I have heard that you can make an adaptive skin first and then make a unified skin from the adaptive skin.

Hey Long, I had the same problem when I was first modeling the mermaid image. Especially the fingers...they would turn into sqiggly worm-like things that I couldn't do anything with. So I made the fingers(zspheres) very large in relation with the rest of her body. It didn't come out perfect but i could work with them. I also tried modeling the hand seperaly from the body and then joining the two. After modeling (the hand ) export and save...then import (the already modeled body)by selecting the stafish-looking tool...then size, rotate and move (you have to enlarge and zoom in on the arm, it will appear in a small window...too small I think). Then mask all and then hit the add button and import the hand ( you will have to resize, rotate and move that as well...it's a pain). Then clear the mask and they will be joined as one tool the you can further manipulate. There is a tutorial on this but I haven't figured out how to include that as a link in a message. Frenchy Pilou is really good at doing that. I know this is a really frustrating thing about this cool program but try making the zspheres bigger first then the import/add if all else fails. good luck and keep trying...d

Hi everybody, take a look at this thread: Topic:

You can find also a humane model made with the unify sphere.
Try to find the position and SIZE about the finger; do this make big change.

Hi guys,
The solution is indeed to make an adaptive skin first and then make a unified skin.
