I've looked at other threads regarding exporting normalmaps, but none of them helped me. What I'm doing is importing a low poly object from 3dsmax as a .obj file. I do some changes to it in ZBrush to make it higher poly, and then I want to export just the normal map for this object. So I go to Tool/Normalmap, and click the Create Normalmap button. Nothing seems to happen. The help associated with that button says the normalmap is added to the Texture palette, but I don't see a new Texture in there. What am I doing wrong? From my understanding, it should save a image file(bmp, or other) of the Normalmap right?

I just need the Normalmap image....

Made sure you have your mesh in the lowmost poly level.

Hmm, I'll try that. If I can figure out how. :D

Use the Tool>Geometry menu to go to your lowest subdivision level. Next, import your original model back into itself. Now create your normal map.

The steps are exactly the same as for creating a displacement map (for which there are several tutorials), but you use the Normal Map menu instead of the Displacement Map menu for the final steps.

dang, I guess I just don't get it...

I imported my .dxf file, which is actually just a cube. Is there a reduce to lowest subdivision button in the Geometry menu?

By importing over the other one, you mean importing the original .dxf again?
