That's a neat idea. For clarity, perhaps you should take the blood from the hand and add it to the neck area below the pumpkin. As it is now, we can't be sure this is not just a pumpkin-headed monster. Make sure we realise that there's been a straight swap.

I agree with Rory...we will understand that the bucket is his own head better, if we see blood on the boy's neck.
