View Full Version : Scared Silly Entry by Fatmir Gjevukaj
Hello All,
This is Zbrush History in the making and althugh this is not my territory I just have to participate in this contest.
First I hope I am not late with my entry.
Been working on the idea and concept on and off for the last 2 days and this is what I got so far.
The Idea: An Old talented Warefolf is held as a prisoner and is forced to Paint the Witch and make her beautiful ....well at least in the Canvas.
(Here the idea was to make Warewolf painting in Cintiq or Zbrush--still in doubt!-in the end I may do a simple canvas) .
I have already started to model the warewolf and the flying monkeys, will post soon some screenshots.
Well this is what I got so far .... and
Good luck to all the participants.

This looks like it will be fun! What a great concept drawing - with that start you don't seem late at all.
Best of luck and looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Very nice! It's refreshing to see a Zbrush painting. :D
I like the side lighting illuminating the left hand side of the picture. If you could carry that through to the right, the witch would look scarier, her profile would be cast onto the wall and the foreground and background would be separated.

Great concept, excellent sketch! :tu: was that painted in Zbrush? It looks like a ZB painting?

I think your sketch was nicely done. The way you put the stone background texture against a flat color wall is pretty original. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out in 3D.

Nice coloring and concept!
Hello and thank you all for your nice comments,
Dondemaker: Thank you.
acmepixel: Thank you. Actually the concept scetch is done in both Photoshop and Zbrush.
Rory_L: Thank you, great suggestion on the shadow . I will try to do do that if I do a final render in mental ray, but still dont know because I would like to do everything in Zbrush even the final rander, will see and thanks again for the suggestion.
Harmonic: Thank you
animastur: Thank's
threetails: Thank you
-WOODY-: Thank you.
Seavannah: Thank you too.
sadicus:Thank you as well.
Hi Again,
I have revised the idea, just adde a little Scary to it and I think I will go with a kid instead of a warewolf.
The Kid is using eraser and the witch is just realizing that he is erasing her in reality. Hope you like the new idea.
Everything so far modeled completely in Zbrush
And here is the flying monkey. Still a WIP. Started from Zspheres and retopologized and then posed using transpose. Hope you like it.

coming along nicely!
I have to say I'm keener on the werewolf than the boy, but I think you've hit on a great improvement with the erasure trick: Keep that and the werewolf! This vengeance suits him more than the boy, I think.
I like the interested attitude the righthand monkey has.
Cheers,

Yeah I have to agree, the warewoolf seemed to fit the mood of the scene better. Or maybe Dorothy from wizard of oz instead?

Kosova,
Excellent concept painting. The sculpting on the monkey and it's feathers demonstrates a strong regard for attention to detail.
As far as a werewolf or a boy, of course, the artists is always right. But, if you'd rather not deal with the nightmare of making 3d fur, maybe a boy mummy, with his fingers tightly wrapped, and smudging the paint despite his best efforts would work with this concept just as well.
Whatever works for you and your work schedule. Amazing start on your entry, no matter which direction you take it.
Kosova,
Great idea and start, personally perfer the original concept with the monkey doing the "painting" rather than the boy but its yours to choose. I've seen enough of your work here to know you'll make a fine contribution.
One small suggestion, I know its still a work in progress but from the overall image and composition from the concepts I feel it might prove more beneficial to place the monkeys on the far left of the image more either in the midst of the image or on the right side facing the witch from there if you get my meaning. Maybe even on the witchs platform causing mayhem with her pose, trying to take her broom or look up her skirt or something silly. Just some thoughts, keep up the great work I know it'll turn out well!! :tu: :tu:
Hello and thank you for your comments,
piz: Thank you
LittleDedder: Thank you
nightwoodwolf: Thank You too
Harmonic: Thank you. Yeah I think I will go with the warewolf afterall.
Marsyas: Thank you. You are doing excellent detailing yourself on the skeleton.
dustbin1_uk: Thank you I appreciate your comments. Dorothy would be nice but it would have too much resemblence to the movie, this way is more ...well different.
sasquatchpoacher: Thank's
Rory_L: Thank you. You are right about the warewolf there's more to that story than with the boy, so I'll go with the warewolf idea. I hope you will like the second older flying monkey that i'm posting and almost done sculpting him.
ravioli_rancher: Thank's a lot. I know that fur is a nightmare to make properly but I'm going to give it a try and maybe if a do a final render in Zbrush than I'll just paint the fur,it will be easier... still don't know though.
AngelJ: Thank's man, and thank you for the great suggestion. The scene is already heavy on the polygons so I dont think I can afford to put more monkeys in there but if I can squeze one I will definitely make another monkey flying around or something.
Thank's again everybody, your comments give me more will and energy to work even more.
Flying Monkey Nr#2
Almost done with the second Monkey. I'm planning to finish all the modeling part first and then start texturing.
Almost done with the witch too... will post her pretty soon but first the second monkey on the scene, I hope you will like it.
I worked some more on the wings too.
After receiving suggestions from many of you that I should go with the Warewolf instead of the boy I think I will go ahead with the warewolf and in the end my wife liked the idea of warewolf better so I don't think I have a choice.
Hope you like the progress.
Thank's.

Some progress images of the werewolf and the witch. Still have to work on some detailing on both of them, but it is getting closer.
Everything modeled from start to finish in Zbrush, I'll post later on some images of the subtools
Hope you like it.

Great work! I really like the wolf.
Fantastic Characters Here! Very well done Man! :tu:
Shaping up nicely, Fatmir! I particularly like the wolf's hand: very sensitive and artistic!
The head, however looks more bear-like than wolf-like. Could the ears be a bit more pointy, maybe? Narrower face, with less pronounced brow ridge and cheek bones, perhaps.

Hello again,
I have started texturing the characters so i thought I post some images. I think I will go with Zbrush render and photoshop for fur only in the end so I did some tests of the werewolfs and monkey's fur, mainly the edges are painted.
Also I am posting some progress shots of some subtools.
I hope you like the update.
Thank you

Presuming that you don't already have one, it would be great to see what you could do with a Cintiq! (Maybe I should say, what you will do with a Cintiq. You're surely in the top 5.)
I just wonder if it might be possible to flip the wolf around, such that he would be drawing (or sculpting maybe?) with his left hand instead of his right. That way he would be turned more toward the viewer. I have no idea how you would go about this, but there just might be some nice simple way.

beautiful texturing .. curious to see the final image, keep it up :tu:
Thank you guys, for your kind words,
monstermaker: Hi monstermaker and thank you. I have completely forgoten about the hourglass and it's importance in the story, thank's for reminding me and yes I did find the time to make one and put it on the scene. I made it slightly different though, didn't want to look the same. Thank's again and I hope you will like the final image! :)
dustbin1_uk: Thank's man....yes I thought it would be more silly with it instead of a canvas! I hope others will see it that way too.
iImagine: Thank's buddy for your kind words. I was exploring myself that idea as I liked the werewolf better from the left side... and it is easy to do what you suggest, you just convert the mesh with all subtools into one mesh and mirror it.
nightwoodwolf: Thank's man I appreciate it.
Hi again,
I thought I'd post some more images of some other subtools that I'm putting in the scene, before I post the final image.
I have already started to put the scene together and I have 13 layers so far, and I have also been exploring the idea of doing the fur(painting it) in the end in Zbrush, not photoshop since the whole idea of this contest is to make the most out of Zbrush.
Hope you like the new images,
Thank you

I have added yet another flying monkey to the scene, mainly for compositional reasons, and I thought I post it as well as the setup of the scene. The drappery is done from the simple plane with Double On under the display properties.
Almost done with the final image and I'll post it either tonight or tomorow morning.
I managed to make the fur in Zbrush using the SnakehookBrush, I like the results as I had great deal of controll on where to place the fur and it's flow.
Hope you like the update.

Hi KOSOVA,
This is fantastic here what you accomplished in such a short time...
The only thing I would have done different is the red color of the drapery...
it draws all the attention of the viewer while all the good stuff lies in between...
nevertheless awesome job!

Singularly, I would think, the most ambitious entry in this contest, and without a doubt one of the best. Like I wrote here before, I'd like to see you win if only for the benefit that the top prize might bring to you. Now it's in the hands of the judges.

Love the effort of detail you have gone to in this, the expressions on each character are brilliant. The only bit I feel is lacking is the floor, which seems to flat compared to the rest of the image. some floor tiles would bring the whole image together I feel.
Great piece though
