Hi people...

... I'm in for my first time challenge...

Dumbball02.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2771015%27,%27Dumbball02.jpg%27, 1,0%29)

It's gonna be a nerdy monster(named Dumbball) who's wearing stupid/nerdy props like braces, a cap, glasses... etc...(and he's out of shape)

The final pic will probably be a shot on a filmset where the monster will look stupid/silly instead of scary...

The sketch started out as pen(Bic) on paper, next scanned and imported into PhotoShop.
Sideview was painted with the mouse:(

Good luck and a lot of Zbrush fun to all participants :)

dumbbal_progress01.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2771361%27,%27dumbbal_progress01 .jpg%27,1,0%29)

I should scale up his teeth probably...

Hope you like it.

Hi, guess you all like it so far .... :D

anayway, here's a quick step I usually take:
It's fast and easy: (especially when you don't know what you're doing  )

dumbbal_progress02.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2771475%27,%27dumbbal_progress02 .jpg%27,1,0%29)

Next putting his teeth in...
I will retop him when the basicforms are done...

Thanks for your time

Forgot to tell: shader is Ralph Stumpf's (RS sculpy)

Thanks threetails !

A major change of idea:
2 monsters(dad and son? ( big and a small one)) are having fun(laughing with) on halloween night (wearing pumpkinhats) playing with a handpuppet – a human head.
Gonna give the braces probably to the small (son?) one.

again quick previz in PS: (2 new tools)

d06.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2771865%27,%27d06.jpg%27,1,0%29)

just had the idea to give the small dude a microphone that he's holding for the handpuppetshead mouth...

and here's a sorta making of the handpuppethead: it was my start doodlehead

Halloweenhead_01.gif (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2771866%27,%27Halloweenhead_01.g if%27,1,0%29)

The cap looked better (and funnier BTW) than the Pumpkin. You could try to alter the Position of the Pumpkin on his head. Maybe a bit back.

10-11-07, 05:17 PM
I like the cap too, unless maybe you could make the pumplin hollow with the eyes and mouth cut out and the pumplin cut or broken in half with that over his head?
Just an idea.

Great modeling so far.

Great concept and very funny. The braces makes the whole thing. Very good sculpting work!

Hi, thank you all very much for the comments...
I followed most of the given advise...:

r06b.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2772118%27,%27r06b.jpg%27,1,0%29 )
still a lot of ground to cover ...

One of the funniest entries I've seen. Great work. Only crit would be to consider changing the design of the human mask into something a bit more nerdy or even cartoon-stylized, big eared, buck-toothed, braces, taped glasses looking, to play off the design of the monsters.

Lucky_1
10-16-07, 09:47 AM
Thanks ravioli_rancher !
I'll consider your comments ...anyway here's a quick paint over in Photoshop...
(makes design decisions(color) alot easier - for me)

r06c.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2772327%27,%27r06c.jpg%27,1,0%29 )

Next: I'm gonna (hope so) finish the main character Dumbbal (sculpting) ...

The onion character thing reminds me of the mandragora characters out of the final fantasy series.

Edit: I didnt see the side view. :P

Fizzy, garyhanna, Blaine91555, SolidSnakexxx ,Alexleia and Threetails,
Thank you very much !

Here's again a small update:
Polypainting and Zapplink: the pumpkinmaggot (Cranked up the saturation in PS)

pumpkinmaggot.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2773903%27,%27pumpkinmaggot.jpg% 27,1,0%29)

More work on Dumby(one of Dumbbal's offspring):

dumby02.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2773904%27,%27dumby02.jpg%27,1,0 %29)

and I ran into this fillobject problem:
when I fill the the hat, the teeth an eyes are also filled with the same color and material...seems like they are linked somehow...

Does anyone know how to fix this ?
problem.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:zb_insimg%28%2773905%27,%27problem.jpg%27,1,0 %29)

I have to be honest, I was wondering about this entry for some time...the initial sketch was interesting, though I didn't quite understand the theme. As you've posted your progress, I'm really digging the modeling and all the little elements. I really am looking forward to seeing the final composition. Nice work, Lucky.

I would like to encourage everyone to join the next challenge... I never learned as much in such a small time periode about Zbrush...and it was really fun...doing...

Here's a monochrome version of the final image for fun and also the requested thumbnail.

I could'nt stop doing post, so I changed my mind ( yep again ;))

So this is really my final entry (sorry for the confusion Aurick)
