View Full Version : neander wip
thought i'd post some wip too ...
actually i'm at a loss here and need some opinions, *before* i drop that mesh and close Z (you just need to reboot sometimes), and there's still some texturing to be done befor i do that.
especially i'd like to know, what'cha think of the ears, since those are my first ever.

and *yes* i do definitely want critique! and there's no need to make it 121 even, just bring it on, hehe.

Great character! Reminds me of an Alfred Hitch**** episode!! Everything looks great and will even better looking once you have textured/painted it. As far as the ears go the only thing I can see is that they could use a little beefing up. They appear paper-thin. But hey that just makes the face look all the more massive. Great work!

Looks pretty good. Yeah I agree, the ears need to have a little more depth added to them. And I think, imho, the cheeks could use a little more depth as well, they too seem a little flat.

This is a great start! :tu:
The best way to approach ears is to stand in front of a mirror and look at your own...
A mirror is a fundamental tool for animation, and also for 3D modelling. You should also use magazine photos, or anything else to give you guidance, and don't hurry it!
The more time you take, the closer you come to the vision you started with. Posting less than you wanted when you started, won't give you the same satisfaction you'll get from executing the exact thing you wanted to portray... :)

Fabulous Sculpting :tu: :tu: :tu:
hmm, they actually *are* paper thin, i'm running out of polygons there.
thanks for the critique, that didn't even hurt and those ears are looking much better already.
btw, you're right concerning the mirror, i only don't want him to have *my* ears, the poor guy has my eyebrows already, hehe.

:tu: :tu: :tu: on the modelling. Seeing this one textured will be a treat. What's been mentioned, as far as the ears go, I don't think I could add anything more. Other than this: From the side, they are really very well done. :tu: :tu:

I agree 100% with Stonecutter on the modelling process. and indeed, DON't rush it.
it is already magificent, and with a little 2D retouching it can look great already.
ears are great.
I don't have to criticize a work if I don't want to, so don't push me :)
love.

excellent head tool.. i cant wait to see the final image.. and i wouldnt change anything on this model..
I would take SC's advice. He has not been too far off in his hints and tips. Very good modeling. Patience is the key. I have not got much experience modeling on the computer, but I have been modeling stone and black coral since Noah was a boy.
That is indeed looking great! :) Though the ears are not 100% realistic (but what is realism anyway?) I think they fit the character pretty well. I love his expression, the wrinkly nose and all... :tu:

guess i'm about halfway there. now all i need is a mammoth (ok, and an arm, a background, couple o'dinosaurs and one more week :)), not that easy to find some sample images.
thanks for all the tips and tricks on fibers, everyone. it's pretty hard to stop with them, once i started, that's why i want a mammoth too :)

Nice work on everything in this one, particularly the hair! Fine job!!
EP this is progressing very well, update 21 already,I think you got the body hair right on in this image.
The updated body looks great ElPix. :) Not just the hair, which btw is AWSOME!, but the skin you can see behind it, around the eyes and lips. :tu:
