Dave, welcome to ZbrushCentral :)
The details on your creature look wonderful. Lots of folds and wrinkles give it loads of character. Did you render these in another program?

Hi Skycastle! Wonderful character and right-on anatomy! More! :tu: :tu: 50.

"Scanner", is that how you refer to the those doodads which let you scan in a sculpture of the kind I've gawped at during the the 'extra features' of my Star Wars DVD's? (and LOTR too I imagine).
If you pro's are seriously exploring replacing those machines with zbrush then I expect the expression on your creatures face would be mine if I were a sculptor.. or scanner operator.. :)
Still I guess all those guys are horribly multitalented anyway, and they work in the movies, so naturally I hate them. I bet most of them have beautiful and happy wives to boot.
Go Zbrush, put the fear into them!
(yes I'm only kidding)

For those who are wondering,
This is not ment to be animated.
It was just to see if I could get
the control I need out of the brushes...
Dave
...and are you happy with the results so far???

If I may ask what it was originaly modeled with?
Really nice stuff... I am on my way to see if I can make something similar with Zifs. =)

Yes I feel like I have total control
with the brushes. I must admit Im
useing a "supped up" version of Zbrush
that I can tell you NOTHING about.
But I can say Zbrush is improving the
quality of models I can produce digitaly. Its also allowing me to be
interactive with a mesh that is
500,000 and 1.5million polys on a
desktop computer! I can't do this in any other software.
My base mesh was done first in Zbrush
using ZSpheres. Then brought into Maya to cut edges on the mesh.
Then finaly back into Zbrush to add detail.

Well you just did Skycastle.
And now I too am VERY interested!
I must also thank you for the link and for some inspiration too. I am now working on a model which was born from the energy found on this post's images. Once again, lovely modeling... (in the other forums thread too!)
Thanks.
HI Sky castle, thats some very interesting work you have produced. Its seems that there is extrodinary control in your model . At first sight I was suspicious and your post concerning a "souped up version of ZB" confirmed my thoughts :) :)
I have been dreaming of a bunch of features such as "smooth brush" and brush shapes you can paint and then use on your model, amongst other modelling features :)
I hope that the version has some of the features I am dreaming of and hopefully it will be released for everyones use.
THankyou for showing your work...
Peace

If this was mostly modelled in Zbrush, it is one of the best modellings, as far as muscles go, using the software. If I can pull something like this off with muscle details using ZBrush, I would be very very happy.
So, is this suped up version of ZBrush something tweaked by the studio and guarded as a propriatery version? :D
Again, impressive muscle work!
Ps. I hope, future versions of the kickass ZBrush will have full sculpting capabilities like Maya's Artisan?
Oh those folks at Weta, now you guys are teasing us...... :D

yet another kickass model from you :) hope to see a full character sometime :)
Well skycastle, thanks for sharing that tidbit of a super version of Zbrush lying around somewhere. ;)
But I think great job, although I think we could pull off the same job on the traditional 1.55b Zbrush we currently have at our disposal. What I'm thinking is, graphics pen. :)
Of course, it also helps when you know what you're doing, and where; and you definately have that.
Is this his final version? And how big is this character, scary but I'm not noticing polys on the head. :)
PS I like the way you "cut" his muscles on the chest bicep transition area.. Can you shed more light on this? Looks to me micro divided.
Awesome model !!
I really like it a lot...
But i wondered myself, how could you have such a clean model with zpheres? could we see the setup you choosed?
thx a lot,
cya...

Sure,
Zspheres are great. I use them to sketch out
the proportion of my creature or whatever.
Then continue sculpting a bit to flesh out
the design.(you can even save your Zspheres as a rough puppet or 3d buck to start from!)
Ok, once you have this "3d Sketch" use this
in your favorite modeling software to draw a new clean mesh on top of.
So.use the Zspheres as a 3d Sketching tool
to block in your character.
I will post some examples of this workflow.

Skycastle,
How is the brush control with the current version of ZBrush? Is it possible to get
the detail you have with this version? I
plan on using it to detail the character shown here. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200310/user_image-1067302875vui.gif

Now, I don't know the interface of Maya, but: those screenies show a neat underline "persp" - & if that is not Maya, then it certainly is something "supped up", and thinking that this up supped thingie might have a defined perspective view makes waiting not any easier :D !!

Thanks,
I just got 1.55b last night and did a test.
I personally find it hard to control the brush and detail of the mesh. Im sure as I learn more about the tools the detail I hope will get better. If anyone can help! thanks. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200310/user_image-1067359383yhp.jpg

For better control in modeling the mesh..you need two things, a soft intensity setting (1 to 10) and a brush size relative to your detail. Note though that the bigger the brush...the less intensity you model with/notice. It also helps to have a nicely divided mesh. NOw, I would tinker with ZBrush a while to get used to it but I would wait to do the real detailing. When the next version is released, it will be able to handle 2 million plus polys (feels faint) and generate the normal maps needed by analyzing the low and high poly meshes (then creating the map).
Here is a weak test is detailing...head is @ 75,000 polys I believe. Horns @ 25,000
(Its weak because I don't like it)

One more suggestion, you should start a new thread on this bad boy ramahan.
Last but not least...welcome aboard and congradulations on your purchase. Your gonna love it.

Thanks,
I will start a new thread tonight. Its sounds like the new version is the key.
I will continue to work and learn from
the version I currently have. Im looking
forward to working with this tool!!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with it. :tu: :tu: :tu: :D ;)
Ramahan: You might also try resizing your object using Modifiers ::Deformation ::Size , this can help in getting more control especialy if you are detailing an imported mesh.

Mahlikus:I must admit mate, i'm waiting in anticipation.. :)....and the cravings are getting real bad!
I'm over in your country for two weeks on Saturday for happy holidays, so i hope after some good Californian bushfires and sun, it will show in all the shiniest reds, greens and blues.
Aurick, send us a sign!
Best

:D cruelty part one: I don't like the eyes!!! :D :D
The "nice" part: imagining it smoothed out... looks good!!
"honestly" (but this is only my view): with that many "perfect" bodies to see - how about making some not so perfect structured models?? Just like the initial pic in this thread: ok, it's an alien - but give him a human head, he will not look better - but more interesting. As I said, only my view! ;)
