Thank God I can post again, the withdrawal is over I think! This is a view of the volcano from the front varanda of my house on the small Caribbean island of Montserrat in the Eastern Caribbean.
I put a lot of hours into this one, in contrast to the quickies done previously. Comments pro or con welcomed.

you have a view like that...omg....lucky...very nice terrain...It looks like something is ready to come over the rise or drop from the heavens in this one....but I could picture myself in a lounge chair in the middle of your picture with a cold glass of ice tea.....Beautiful vista you have created... :tu: :tu:

it is awesome, devee!
your classical painting education shines brightly through this piece. I'm not touching it, oils take a while to dry =D

you didn't create the view, so I'm not congratulating you on that, but the painting is :tu: !!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you all for your comments. In the not too distant future I will attempt to share my painting style with those who are interested. You already know how I do my skies and also my cloth, so I really only have to add how I go about laying out the painting to get the right perspective. I am pleased that the effort put in was worth it.

You painted this? From scratch?! When I first saw it, I thought it was a modified photo.

Absolutely amazing, stunning, *insert superlative here* work!

And oh yeah, I'm envious of the view, too.

You have definitely shown what can be done with Zbrush regarding landscapes. This one would take some beating.

Thanks again for the kudos and suggestions. When I get some time I will attempt to paint the view from the other side of the house, the back varanda, which looks out over the sea, on a clear day you can see the Islands of Antigua and Guadeloupe. Truely a little bit of heaven.

Yep I had to look twice to understand it was a painting.
Wonderfully done.....scary view. We have the odd volcanoes that erupt every once in a while. :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Hi DeeVee,

Most excellent :tu: :tu: You've imbued the image with both a photographic and painterly feel. I like how the clouds are met by the volcano.

If this is the view from your front veranda it is both a most beautiful and frightening view. I clearly remember the eruption in 95 - wasn't the entire island evacuated - with a year passing before the return? Hope you never have to witness a pyroclastic flow from this vantage point!!!

Excellent work, a wonderful softness :tu:

Hi Impending, thanks for the comments. The first eruption was in July 95. The whole island was not evacuated, they were just moved to the Northern side of the island which is relatively safe. Funny thing I had some American Ham radio operators staying at the house the week before the eruption, I happened to be on island at the time and we were all down inside the volcano. It was one of our main toourist attractions. Now it is all gone, but Montserrat is still a very beautiful island.

One of (if not the)finest 2d painting examples I've seen executed with ZBrush-did you submit this one to the Pixologic website
for inclusion in the users gallery-you better do it-this is superb!

rhom, I gave them permission to display it on their site if they thought it was good enough. To date, I have heard nothing from them, I have not even received my permanent serial number, although it was promised last week.
We have a saying in the Islands," many are called, few are choosen" I will just continue to enjoy myself, if they use it they do, if they don't no big deal.
Thanks for thinking it is good enough though, that is credit enough for me along with all the other compliments given on this image
