This plugin will convert brushes saved with the Brush Manager in version 3.0 to 3.1 Brush Presets.

INSTALLATION

The zip contains:

BrushConverter_readme.txt
BrushConverter.zsc - the plugin file

Unzip the zip file to your ZStartup\ZPlugs folder ..\ZBrush3\ZStartUp\ZPlugs).

Restart ZBrush. You should now have an Marcus Tools subpalette in the ZPlugin palette, with a 3.0>3.1 Brush Converter button.

INSTRUCTIONS
First make sure you have a model in Edit mode. This is necessary so that the brush palette is available. Press the Brush Converter button. You will be asked to choose a file. This must be a version 3.0 Brush Macro file, located in one of the subfolders of the ZStartup\Macros folder.

Once you have chosen a file the conversion should happen automatically. If all goes well, your new brush preset will be saved to the ZStartup\BrushPresets folder.

I hope you find this useful. As I don't have a vast array of brush macros to test this with there may be issues, so if you have problems post in this thread.

EDIT: I have added a plain vanilla zscript version for those that are having problems with the plugin. (I hope this solves the issues!) Unzip this to the ZScripts folder and load using the ZScripts:Load button. The Brush converter button will be in the Tutorial window at the bottom of the interface. If you can't see the button press 'H' on the keyboard to open the window or click+drag the window handle upwards.

This version simply rewrites the macros, it doesn't run them automatically; you need to press the macro button after conversion - the settings will then be loaded and the brush saved. Full instructions in the zip.

w00t! First post!
:P

Thanks for the converter.

Awesome stuff you got, marcus. These mini tools of yours should be listed in a gallery or something.

THANK YOU! Works fine for me. OK so now if I want to redistribute the brushes I created on 3.0 and converted to 3.1 should I just zip everything I did before (for 3.0) but just now be sure to include the brush preset file? Oh and I created Icons for them. Can I add them to the zip as well in the \ZStartup\BrushPresets folder?

dozogovi,
That is rather alarming. Could you be a bit more specific? Does the plugin lock up ZBrush right from the start or only after pressing the button? If after you've pressed the button, are there any other indications of when the freeze occurs?

Bryan,
Glad it's working for you! There's no need to include anything other than the .ZBP brush preset file. All the image, curve and whatnot files are wrapped up in that, including any custom icon you have used.

Wonderful Marcus!!

I converter my brushes included in Moochie's "Make a Brush challenge ( ZB 3.0 format)
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=46885

All worked fine except the alpha radial fall-off seemed to be set to zero on them all (easy enough to edit on the fly). I also noticed that the spacing of the stitch brushes was lost_ I shall have a play and see if I can get them back to their original state, but its a great start!

Bryan_ how did you make the little icons??

Same problem here, I had to remove the plugin to get ZB3.1 top menus to work. I could use the side menus, draw and activate anything as long it wasn't in the top row or second row of items. I couldn't minimize, shut down, open preferences, nothing up top worked and clicking there just shut the visibility of the names of the menus off.

Marcus, i too am getting the menu lockup. At first i thought it was my custom settings so i removed all of those but through trial and error with removal of the plugin i have to say its definitly the script.

Hi Marcus,
I'm getting the menu lockUp/ZBrush freeze too. Tested with revB. Zbrush freezes on startup when the plugin is in its place.

Bryan_ how did you make the little icons?? I just followed the size of the sample one they have in the brush presets folder, which I believe was 96x96. I created a sphere in the scene subdivided it and gave it a sample stroke across it. I then screenshot it and took it into photoshop to resize it to 96x96 and saved it out as a psd. Then went back to my brush and in the brush palette there is a button to choose an icon for your brush. I clicked it, located the psd and resaved the brush. Thats it. It should now be the new icon for your brush.

Andrea,

Thanks, I'll post a standard zscript version that will hopefully work without freezing ZBrush.

Thank you, Marcus. With the help of your script I could convert my brushes.

While testing the converted brushes I stumbled upon a bug in the new ZBrush release: if a brush has an alpha and the brush is active while loading a new tool the alpha gets disconnected. I had to reload the brush in order to restore the connection to the alpha.

Thanks Andrea, I'm glad the converter worked ok for you now. On the loading tool bug, yes, I had noticed this too but thanks for mentioning it.

can someone donate their converted rapidbrushes?Since the converter and the script are both not working for me.
The converter and the script both say the rapid brush macros are not macros and quit.

thanks

thomas,

As far as I know, the Rapid Brushes are already coverted and in the default brush set. The converter will only covert brushes saved with the ZB 3 Brush Manager and the version 3.0 Rapid Brushes didn't use this, so that's what is causing the problem.

If you want the original Rapid Brushes converted please send them to me and I'll convert them for you: marcus (at) benbus (dot) co (dot) uk

Thomas,

Here are the converted Rapid Brushes. They may well perform slightly differently from in ZBrush 3.0 because of the various changes but hopefully they will be a start to what you want.

Marcus, you are - as everyone knows - a bloody genius! I was missing a few of those 3.0 brushes terribly. Is there anything you can't do?

Have Pixo offered you a very highly paid job yet? Surely it's just a matter of time?;)

Slashpot,

Thank you for the kind words. And as you see, I'm a moderator, so part of the team. :)

So when are you going to put something in the top row? Surely only a matter of time. ;)
