Ok, here is my second attempt. I understand the eye's are pathetic, but im yet to read the tutorial on creating eyes ;) The initial texture applied is a hires snakeskin, then heavily hand painted in ZBrush to create a bit more depth and individual patters. All I need to do is learn how to use the fog (cant figure it out) and create eyes and im set to create some backgrounds ;)

Obviously alot of the clarity and overall impression of the textures is less due to the size restraints, however I think you get the rough idea.

well, this is incredibly good for a second post. you're really coming along here. Great texture and modeling. can't wait to see some full pics of yours when you figure out how to use everything. i'll let someone more experienced answer your questions...they'd probably do a better job of explaining things anyway. well, i'll seeya. great work!

Pretty darn cool modelling/texturing if you ask me.
Suggestion: Try making the eyeballs a bit larger - you may find they fit the eye socket better. As far as the eyeballs texture - hey it's very cool.
You can find some very good info through the QuickLinks link at the top right of this page. Check it out, and whatever you do, keep posting your art. It is very good.

I have to agree with filament, very nice...looks like a snake skin that we have here in the south, called a Copperhead....very venomous...keep up the great works :tu: :tu:

MOH you are an experienced artist with a very good knowledge of several 3d programs, so I personally am not surprised at the quality of your work. I must say that it has taken you very little time to produce outstanding work using ZBRUSH. This is a sharing forum, so would you kindly share your techniques with us, as it appears as if we still have a lot to learn.

Thank you for your kind words :)

As for some directions to how I did the texturing. Well for starters I created the snake skin in Photoshop. I own a snake myself so the pattern was a mixture of my observations, then created in photoshop with snippets of images of real snake skin here and there. Once I applied that to the model (i like to think of that as the *base* texture). I took out the paintbrush and lightly painted different colour variations where I saw fit. I used the hue/saturation tool to bring out a better quality in the colours I was using. And apart from that, I just painted appropriate colours with the correct amount of intensity onto the *base* texture untill I was satisfied with the overall look.

One tip as you probably may know. To increase the clarity and resolution of your textures, Open up any texture you like in photoshop. Create a new document, but make it big, I mean real big, like 5000 pixels by 5000.. (I used that for the last texture)... now take your little square, cut it and paste it right in the middle of your now massive new document.

Next cut and paste, cut and paste, a few times and re-align the little squares of texture next to each other. To speed up the process, once you have several next to each other, flatten the image, select them again, cut and paste that larger chunk over and over again. Finally when you've filled your 5000 / 5000 sized document with those little 512 / 512 sized squares of texture, you'll see you have one MASSIVE map. Now load that up in ZBrush, and apply that to your model. You'll find it carries out an *amazing* amount of detail to your texture.

A tip that's probably well known already, but I thought I should mention it just in case :)
