need tip for the ears

hi its me again,
i thought that modeling the ears was a pain but its was simple.where the pain come is when its time the made the head and the ear fit together. if you have a special trick let me know.My english its not that great so the picture will explain.

i model a head/ear area like this

then i copy the edgepolyring as a basic for the ear so it fits perfectly. of course it depends how detailled it shall be and you have to tweak a lot.

i think you need to "merge points" or "vertices".
but it looks like you might wind up with triangles.
