View Full Version : The Pines
Felt a little bored so I decided to visit one of the small beaches which dot the coastline of this island. When I got back I doodled this image, I tried to incorporate a few seagulls as hinted by jaundel, I hope you like it.

Your best yet, Joe! :)
:tu: :tu: :tu:  :tu: :tu: :tu:
The pines are excellent, the curve and appearance of the surf, and the dune is perfectly executed! I think this is a candidate for printing!!!
AN EDIT : Since this is so fine I'm reluctant to offer advice but here goes...I would suggest loading your pic in, selecting the 'Shading Enhancer' brush, a very small size, I would use 2-4, and ZAdd turned on but with an Intensity of about 10-15...Now, alternating between holding the ALT key down, and unpressed, use this to add texture to the pines, by stroking vertically on the trunks...You get a lightening effect with the ALT key unpressed, and a darkening with it pressed. The end result will be realistic bark.

FANTÁSTICO!!!!! :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
Wow! please pass the coconut milk. All the scene needs is me and my boat, Blue Chablis, anchored out there in the lagoon.

What do you think, Digits...? Shell mud bottom? Maybe the Midnight Wind should drop a hook to leeward? ;)
Thanks folks. SC you know I always take your advice, sometimes I get it done at other times I am unable to. I tried, and this is the result. Funny I tried to do the bark of the pine on the right before it was posted but got side tracked. You will notice that the trunk on the left of the screen is mottled.

The Doctor Dee has produced another goodie for my eyes I see...this is one of your best....very natural looking....love the color you chose on the shallows....Ron now puts his winter hat and scarf back on and grumbles something about needing to move to the Caymans.... ;) ;) :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
Yes Michael, we are going to have to do that one of these days, would love to have a sundowner with ya. I suspect in DeeVee's waters it is white sand, sea grass I don't see a reef out there. I stand by my 45 lb plow (27 ft boat) in most any bottom, I get a good nights sleep that way :)
You are so right about the bottom digits. Sandy bottoms on the popular areas, turtle grass and sand on most others, a few have a rocky bottoms but the rocks are flat. As a kid I did a lot of sailing around the Caribbean, as my family owned inter island sailing ships. The smallest the "Lady Ebenezer" a two master was about 120 ft.

Well, it looks good to me Doc! Sometime you shoud check out the 'Stroke' menu...The settings you use in here, combined with Intensity settings give you a lot of approaches...
(But I like the 'mottling'...Looks more organic! ;) )
And Floyd, I use twin Danforths, fore and aft, on 250 feet of 5/8 inch chain...No rope...(I sleep like a baby in everything up to a baby gale...
;)
Great work and lovely view.

Very striking DeeVee! You are growing with each painting!! Those seagulls look similar to those used in Aurick's latest image. Did you get them from the same place? If so where did you get them?

Well I just tell you the word I said out loud to myself as soon as I saw your new creation.
"WOW" :)
Is it just me or are you getting better and better ?! Every single image you post always seem to get more amazing one after the other. Really nice work :)
Thanks again for the feedback. I firmly believe in the saying "Que non proficit deficit" he who does not progress degresses. The seagull was from a tool created by Ed-The-Atom. It is available from the QuickLinks.

OK I will do just that Drjj as soon as I get the prints done. Contact has been made with a local printer, however I think I may get better prices in the States. I am also looking into that route. Thanks for the interest everyone, it is very much appreciated.
DeeVee.
DeeVee,
This came out great! It reminds me of one of the beaches from my honeymoon :)
Thank you Smiles. Where did you go on your honeymoon ? was it the Cayman's or some other tropical paradise ?
We went to Hawaii and did some island hopping :). We had a fabulous time! Romantic, and relaxing all in one :).
We ended up booking it two weeks before our wedding. Originally we were going to Rome, but terrorist were bombing the airports at the time.
In-spite of all the last minute change of plans it ended up being a perfect honeymoon :)
My marketing blood is churning here, but considering the beauty of your work, and it's definite island origins, I believe a postcard booklet of your pieces would be a fabulous "trinket" for the tourists.
This is gorgeous.
Thanks Kat, have you got any contacts? if you do Please drop me a note when you are feeling better.
DeeVee
Next time you go i would like to come with you. I mean who wouldn't like to be relaxing in a beach like this one? Who???? :D
You are invited. Just close your eyes and use your imagination and you will be there doing whatever you wish without limitations :ex: :ex: :ex:
another masterpiece deeVee, I think this is one of the best pics you've done yet :tu: :tu: ::

:tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: and so on... they should make you superior minister of tourism of the caymans and paradise in general - in case they can guarantee that this position allows you to spend at least 6 hrs. a day with zbrush :D

Thank you jaundel, but no thanks. One member of the family in that sector is enough. My wife was Deputy Director of Tourism for more than 20 years, that's enough I think.
Thanks for all those who commented on this image, it is greatly appreciated.
Everytime I see one of your pieces, I feel compelled to run to Clearwater Beach! Or Indian Rocks Beach. LOVELY. :tu: :tu:
You've really cornered the market on talented exotic places.
This one needs to go in the book. ;)
