Nothing more than my ZScript that gives me some white paper and a few Pencils.
Have a bit of Fun and see what you can come up with.
One of my sketches is included if you press the `show me some sketching` button.
TIP: Slow down the ZScript replay time and always click
the `white paper` button before using the pencils.
The document will try to resize to 1000x1000 so it won't work in the demo.
You need a screen res of at least 1280x960

Glen,
I have a quick Wacom question:
Short of setting the "tip feel" settings in the wacom control panel for Zbrush, whenever I use it, I get very "Strong" pulls/pushes when sculpting a model.
To the point that I can use Z Intensity of 1 through 3 at MOST. Am I doing something wrong, or why is the response so overly sensetive.
BTW, the setting is the default in the control panel and is a bit "soft" for my tastes in Photoshop an such, but no where near as sentisitive as the pull/push.
So for drawing it works fine, but for sculpting, I'd alsmost get cleaner results using a mouse.
Thanks if you can give some advice,
Andre Khromov

akhromov, try sizing your model up a couple of sizes in the deformation pallette. That'll decrease your influence of the drawing cursor.

Hey Southern,
Have you ever drawn with Alias Sketchbook. It's an excellent drawing tool, you seem to have captured it's feel, and then some. I had no idea ZBrush had this capability. Thanks for the script.

Discoveries so far:
1) You can still scroll the canvas around to create seamless drawings. Pencil-drawn textures, anyone?
2) Selecting a color after your pencil type produces very nice organic results as well, but the thumb-smudge feels wrong on that.

THESP: I downloaded a demo of Alias SKetch book the other week and really liked messing with it so I guess this is a little reaction to that. I really use Painter for most of my sketching but since writing this little script I have found it handy.
CTRLX:If the smudge isn't to your liking just go in and edit it. The script I have here now has changed from that one as I refine all the sizes, intensity settings, alpha types etc. Please feel free to change anything you want and re-post it.
Cheers,

Hotkeys...hotkeys...hotkeys...hotkeys!

Also, just a though...Three+ eraser sizes.
Also, maybe a second smudge...Paper Stick (don't know what the hell thats called). Internally though...it would be the blur tool and not the smudge.
Just a though..still wicked awesome.
Glen:
I think I was unclear. The smudge tool is great as-is. I was sort of outside the scope, saying that colored pencils aren't as responsive to being smudged. I'll experiment with different settings later, but what I was really trying to say is that if the user can restrain themselves in that one area, what you've built here is also a great tool for colored pencil drawings.
It wasn't a criticism so much as a "Hey, look what else this can do. You've got to try this!" kind of thing.

Hello everyone on the Zbrush forum!
My name is Chad, and I just bought Zbrush about a week ago. This program rocks! Especially this pencilcase script.
Here's a quick sketch I did with it. I'm still getting used to Zbrushes interface so I don't know about zooming the canvas in/out while I am drawing. I'll figure it out though.

I've also started playing around with texturing a model I'm working on in Maya. I don't have any pics online yet, but needless to say I'm really happy with Zbrush so far. And I haven't even started using the zspheres yet. :D
Anyway, just wanted to say hello, and that I'll be around these parts for awhile.

No major changes because I don't know script all that well. IIRC, as per southern's design certain pencils (and the eraser) have certain alphas. However changing from one to the other and then back again didn't always change the alpha appropriately. For example; say I have pen#1 which uses alpha#1. I then switch to pen#2 which uses alpha#2. Then I would switch back to pen#1 but the alpha stayed at #2. I can't remember which ones were the culprits since like I said before, it's been a while since I did my editing of the script. Anyways, added a few extra colors and divided up smudge into separate weak and strong buttons. Oh, and fixed up the hover-over-button text labels a bit (yeah, I know that's a bit anal, lol) as well as remove a redundant PSD. Hopefully I did the job right... ;)

Greetings,
A few questions...
Is there an "official" script icon for Zketcher?
I use Pix's ZLauncher, and Zketcher shows up as the triangle question mark thingy (with "pencilcase" displayed on mouseover).
<strike>In the Zketcher folder there is an image called "thumb.psd" that looks like it should be used for the smudge tool? This image does not display anywhere while using this script.</strike>
Is there anyway to modify the script so that the eraser (or smudge tool) can be mapped to the eraser on my stylus?
Thanx.
Edit: To enable thumb.psd as the smudge tool button, I inserted this block at line 52 of pencilcase.txt:

For load it press on a free place of icone launch script with "Alt" pressed :)

Hi Thor
As Frenchy says you create a thumbnail for the script and name it the same as the name of the script. This allows Zlauncher to display the graphic for it.
I made an Icon Creator script awhile back but I was unable to find it on the forum. So here it is, perhaps it will be of help

Yo Lanito,
very, very nice drawing and wright on time to illustrate a problem/challenge I'm trying to figure out:
What would the best and/or fastest way be (in Zbrush!) to create a cityscape like in this drawing?
I mean, with the same perspective, point of view, details, etc...?
Anybody any suggestions, tut,...?
Maybe make a new post about this issue?
juandel
03-03-04, 08:43 AM
ola, Fets! :) off topic but since you asked - i think the fastest way to do cityscapes is creating an alpha with alpha 00 and spraystroke and applying it the alpha century way (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=001312) to a hires 3dplane or terrain tool like i did in the below ones with the exception of the upper right one which was done by placing a sphere and dragrectangling up cubes on it one by one with draw perspective on.
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200403/user_image-1078331657vzt.jpg
the spraystroke - alphacentury technique doesnt allow for details, but of course you could carefully build up an alpha manually by placing cube above cube in gyro-mode, rotating them into place along streets and suchlikes and do the alpha century afterwards to be able to rotate all of the terrain at once. :ex: rotating cubes often ends up in severe jaggies, try to overcome that by using hires ones, roadmap-stencils, huge canvases, AA, depth cue etc. :) addendum to spraystroke: i believe its best to reduce flow + maximize placement to avoid "heaps".
for details: of course its possible to add some on the quickly done alphacentury ones but there are mucho better possibilities: i dont have the time right now but you might want to do a search for some useful tips on creating houses/cities by Pusghetty and WingedOne (who has done a random box script which should work great to build cityscapes). also check out Marcels gallery - he has done a few excellent and detailed cities!
hope this helps to get you started

If the deadline, for the project I need it for, promits me to do it by using Z, I will show you the outcome in this or a new post.
Once again: MANY THX!

Now my tablet is getting some real use!
Thanks!!!
For who-ever is interested, I posted a wip starting from Zketcher too. You can find it here (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=014514)
I think I made it subconsciously inspired by Davey_1's contribution. Zketcher rocks!

Too Good Le Discot:)
This is outstanding for too many reason to mention! But since you are so displeased with zbrush :D , maybe if you record a zscript of the process you take to make such a stunning work , the whole forums praises and thanks might cheer you up?
thanks for sharing your work!

My god... will Zbrush functionality ever cease? Its constantly expanding through things like this and the other updates... I'm shocked everytime I load up the forum nowadays.
I need a tablet so bad now... when modeling you can fool yourself with a mouse for a while.. (I've been doing it for what? 2 years now? maybe longer) but when you get some functionality with a pencil built in a mouse just doesn't cut it.
I predict some day that Zbrush will make its own tablet.. hehe then you'd have so much form and functionality built in...

How can I download version 1.2? The link doesn't work. Or is this version the same as the one on the first page?
Could the first post maybe be edited to make clearer what version is the latest? Sorry if I am being stupid here... :D
... and thanks a ton for this plugin, I just love the pencils! ;)

Edit: I refer to this post: ZKetcherv1.2 (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showpost.php?p=41454&postcount=66)

hi frenchy,
zeddicus at one time (you can see it in the thread you posted the link to) had cleaned up the script and stuff and posted it as a 1.2 version. His link is no longer valid. I know I had it at one time but can't find it at the moment so it must be on a saved disk somewhere lost in the mess I call an office.

hi
in the texture menu there is a grap doc button. hit that then you can export the texture.
or get Svengali's way cool Psnap plugin (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=26981) and save out the canvas and you can do it in incremental numbers....i just gave myself an idea for a silly animation......but anyway it's very useful plugin.
