The Other Side

I know this is a rather clumsy looking attempt here but I learned quite a bit and thought I'd post.
I don't like the artifacts that Bake leaves all over the place and would appreciate info on how best to apply it. (or *not* apply it)
This used about every function I could find in ZBrush and was rendered as 9 unflattened layers with the botton 2 baked.
Several point and glow lights along with a few suns. All adjustments done in ZB.
dr. jjwow - John asked to see what I could do with only ZBrush and here's my best shot for now.
Perhaps I will add a bridge in the foreground later...perhaps a few living beings if I can improve on character work...
Thanks for the suggestion John! Did my best.

Happy 2002 all!

Paul - Pinhead

And just for laughs here's a Torigate I made in ZBrush from alphas applied to 3dplanes and terrains along with a few stretched spheres.
All textures, sky and post work in ZBrush.
It seems relatively close to the real Tori gate at Miyajima. I remember how much I liked it when I saw it on the Bryce 2 box a few years ago. . .Ironic eh? Hahahahahaaha.
I uploaded it at 3dc freestuff as a Bryce Obp. Will make it a Ztool if I can find the damn file again - I usually delete all after a render. (pardon my verbosity)

Hey Pinhead-those are fantastic-hard to believe that's ZBrush, sometimes when I look at your images-I know it is- but you stretch this program out a bit. The bar is raised again!

Paul, your work is beautiful! I really like the texture of the foliage in the first image, "The Other Side" (because it somehow jumps out at me); and the water texture and shading in "NewGate" is splendid! But then, I've always harbored a love for the fantastic. Tell me, what is the significance -- if any in particular -- of the metal chutes in "The Other Side," and of the planet earth in the background? Does the image depict an alternate plane (a heaven, perhaps), or simply another planet? I think it would be wonderful to see more architecture in the foreground, but living beings would add an even livlier touch. Yes...as it is, "The Other Side" seems haunting, perhaps a representation of our own world amid a series of historical occurrences and infinite possibilities. With people, it will seem more solid and less ethereal. But it all depends on what you want it to be.

;) Yes, I know; I often get more excited about the artwork itself, and what it means, than in the technology that made it possible.

Anyway: :tu: :tu: :tu:

And happy 2002 to you too!

I really like them both, but am especially partial to the Torigate. I've always loved the oriental aesthetic, and it's also nice to see the way that you use ZBrush in conjunction with other apps.

Nice stuff, Paul!
