Hello,
Since the release of ZBrush 3 with its built-in QuickTime and a 'one click' turntable recorder, we have seen many Z3 movies popping across the net.
If you have seen a Z3 movie which you liked (or have recorded yourself) please post a link to it in this thread. If possible, please include a short description of the linked movie.

Thanks.

I came up with a work around for rigging multi-mesh characters.

Insert Mesh. It's not perfect by a long shot but at least it gives you a reasonable starting point for a posed character with close and accessories.

Special thanks to Plakkie and Rastaman for continued R&D in teh field.

Here's a WIP. From a zSphere I started making a rough female form. I retopoed that and began adding edge loops. Unfortunately bad things started happening whenever I did an edge loop so I kind of stalled there. If you watch closely you'll see the error near the end of the video.

Please let me what you think:( and i if this has happened to you).

Thanks.

Interesting workflow. I love seeing how other people work.Thanks. I like seeing other people's workflow too. I got a real kick and a lot of inspiration watching Ambient-Whisper's Colossus movie. Now I do more sculpting with the Flatten brush than the Standard brush.

Do you have a final image of the woman you were sculpting?
Nope, I stopped and went to bed after I hosed the geo. I'm going to revisit it and try some of AngelJ's recommendations (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=44793&page=4).

Totally, I love the woman with the dreds on your site as well.Thanks. I scuplted that from 3 spheres, head hair and neck/shoulders, in Mudbox. I have been meaning to bring it into ZB3 for retopo.

In case anyone is interested i've made an open channel on Veoh for anyone wanting to post ZB3 tutorials, workflows, turntables and so on.
Its called ZChat Session because it will archive the sessions that happen over at the ZChat community (which you are all invited to join) BUT its open for everybody so feel free to make use of it :D

If people are interested and want to, this could be a nice way to organize all the videos into one location. You can still link your video to your site, youtube and/or google video from Veoh.

Anyway its there for you to use if you want to :)

What surpised me about yours is that you had both the standard ZBrush logo AND your own logo which is something I wanted to do all in ZBrush. Svet,

I swear I typed a response to this earlier. The server must have eaten it.

Anyway, I'm jealous that you were able to capture your first 3D work, let alone your first ZBrush one, on video. It's going to be amazing in a few months to look back and see how far you've come.

-----

MonicaM,

1) Speed comes with practice, and there is nothing lame about having the discipline to stick with a project for that long.

2) Photobucket hosts video now? Sweet.

3) When you have an open hole in your model, look in the Tool Pallette for the Display Properties section, and press the Double button within that. The inside of your model becomes visible through those gaps, which helps you visualize the overall form as you rotate about, and also makes your turnaround renders that much cooler-looking.

Hi, I've done my Video Channel at Youtube, so if someone want to take a look or subscribe:

If the ppl who upload videos do this kind of channels we don't have to post every single movie that we do... everything would be in the channel itself.

It's just a suggestion.

If you too are new to 3D (like I am), I can share with you my cheap tricks for achieving moderately good beginner results.
For capturing a video of your ZBrush model, use the Movie drop down menu on the top of ZBrush. Then use the Turntable button and tweak the settings - frames per second, etc. It is pretty automated and I loved it for being so easy.

Here is another Movie of another model I recently made: MOVIE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awq4nZ4ar8E)

hey, im making a movie for pal 720x576 . should i render out a zbrush movie at that resolution or should i double it? Also how should i take into consideration the picture/pixel ratio?

Ctrl-Z
09-05-07, 08:05 AM
in the Movie pallette, the Doc/Window setting defaults to "Doc", which means your movies size is determined by the size of your canvas. If you set it to "Window", it will expand to include the ZBrush interface. the "Auto Zoom" button will make that less predictable.

Large/Medium/Small setting defaults to "Medium". Which means that, yes, your resolution is cut in half. Setting it to "Large" will match what you're seeing exactly, including jagged edges.

Doubling the resolution and leaving it at Medium will give you a very nice look, but if you're planning to integrate this with other footage, the anti-aliasing that results can interfere with your ability to chroma-key. At that point, you're probably better off doubling the resolution and leaving it at "Large", establishing your alpha masks, and then scaling down in your compositing software.

A huge canvas will, of course, draw increased resources and affect performance accordingly. Experiment with short clips, figure out what you can live with. And post the results! I'm very curious where you're going with this.

Thanks CTL-Z, its lookin good. With alittle tweeking Zbrush renders can look really great for the render time taken. I hope Zbrush team work on adding more final rendering options in later releases, could easily give other renderes the fear, mainly for the ease of it all. Esepcially as i see the rest of my team wrangling with Mental ray and its anomolies.

Ill post my final Movie here next week for your viewing pleasure

Seems odd that the record function doesnt go to 25 fps..... is there a specific reason for this? is there any way i can replicate 25fps in zbrush or am i doomed to have a juttering movie? ive got my spin frames turned right up and still its not smooth enough.

I recently had an artist ask how I would approach making skin pores for a character inside of ZBrush.

skinpores.jpg

I put together a very quick video (02:23) to demonstrate how to do this.
You can take a look at the video here:

Click Me To See The Video (http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1101523rDwcb5zx?c=nickzArtTraining)

Hope this helps someone out!

Thanks,

I have had a few people request a video on how to project detail and color from a hi res mesh onto a resurfaced mesh.

I had some time today to put together a video on this.

I've added a few new bits and pieces over at my veoh thingy. :) I still use it as my 'random' speed sculpt storage area, there's a few tuts and other things as well as the turntables for those intersted.

Enjoy

Hey Nick, REALLY great tutorials you have there. I noticed that you don´t really have one where you show how you got the head and body of the troll to match up though, and was wondering if you were planning on doing one on that?

I finally got some time and motivation to put together a series of videos based on the curriculum I've written. I realize there are other videos around that show similar things.

These three videos cover modeling from a PolySphere primatve all the way to retopology and how to keep SubDivision levels during this process. I even cover EdgeFlow theory in detail. I've tested these methods many times and worked out many common mistakes. These lessons are designed to be useful for all skill levels. If you need more step-by-step, you can look through my old posts.

Here is the linkto the new videos:

Its possible to save a .mov file? not zmv..
MAC OS X ZBrush.Absolutely not. But you should be able to export one. ;)

(You're barking up the wrong button. But it's a natural mistake.)

.ZMV is the native format that ZBrush saves movies in, just as .MOV is the native format that Quicktime saves movies in. You can't save movies from Quicktime Pro into any other format. Clicking "Save As" will bring up only the format a program can re-open and continue working with. Clicking "Export" gives you the option to convert your data into formats the program can't natively open.

It sounds like I'm splitting hairs, but imagine how destructive it would be to accidentally throw away the ability to edit your work. That's why these functions are separate in almost every program.

Hello guys I would like staff to propose that you begin to post the videos tutorials in http://blip.tv/ (http://blip.tv/) or another us there because we are in countries the 3rd world can learn more, since Veoh :td: has blocked access to these countries limiting our learning with these excellent videos you post! I appreciate the understanding of all ! Thanks a lot !

Most of us aren't staff, but your point is well taken - I didn't realize veoh was blocking out the international community.

blip.tv has always been very open, and for the few who'd need them, their pro accounts have some remarkable distribution options (automatically converting your video to various formats, cross-posting to other sites, serving your videos as a podcast feed, etc).

YouTube's increased their video quality a good deal since everyone started using Veoh. But if that still isn't good enough, I'd definitely recommend blip.tv

Really old animation test using... ZBrush 2, I think? I don't remember if 1.55b had .obj export. And 3d studio max:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48p-oCAJSWo

I haven't actually opened 3d studio max since ZB3 came out.

And here's yet another head sculpting timelapse, but with a camera over my shoulder in addition to the usual screencap.

Editing that was WAY too much effort, so don't expect more like it.

I came up with a work around for rigging multi-mesh characters.

Insert Mesh. It's not perfect by a long shot but at least it gives you a reasonable starting point for a posed character with close and accessories.

Special thanks to Plakkie and Rastaman for continued R&D in teh field.

Wacom hosted a Webinar yesterday:
The invite said: "Join Paul Gaboury, 3D Application Engineer with Pixologic as he demonstrates how ZBrush is used in various industries to sculpt and paint 3D..."

It was great. Unfortunately I got online a little late. Usually I would have recorded something like this, but didn't get to. Wacom said something happened to their recording the session. I wonder if anyone in the forum did capture this and can post it here?
I am trying to replay in my mind everything Paul showed, and, since there was a lot, can't remember everything I saw. Thanks, if you have it, it will be most appreciated. I would love to try some of the things Paul showed.
