I've had a chance to try the new ZBrush release today, a friend of a friend own a copy of the program (he is a digital illustrator), and allowed me to play around with his workstation.

I'm astonished.

The new ZSphere tool is COSMIC!!!

Here is a quick 3d model I've generated today, THE VERY FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I'VE USED THE INCREDIBLE ZSPHERE TOOL!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! :) It's an arm, just the left one, because when I started modelling I forgot to activate the X simmetry, I was all enchanted by the power and ease of use of ZBrush :)

I would like to know how to generate the overall skin for the model, like the beautiful ones of Pixolator (my hero! :))) without having tons and tons of faces.

Is there a tutorial to learn more about Zsphere?

I'm now back home with the old release of ZBrush. Without Zsphere, I feel myself like beeing naked on the central square...

Pixolator, I love you forever!!!

To preview press the "A" key, theres more to it than that, someone else will answer you better, but if you expand the "Inventory" within the tools palette you can make two different kinds of skin. Try both :)

Liberating isn't it :)

the arm you made will probably not be good for adaptive skinning (this is what the preview shows) , try out unified skinning with smoothing 0.

3 posts and you did THIS arm?

Alessandro, you are scary! Welcome to the club!

Namek gave you some good advice, but you might actually have some interesting results with an adaptive skin of this, after playing around with the settings a bit. Depends how you intend to use it.

Please post any further work you do with it!

This is what I obtain when I generate an
unified skin with smoothing set to zero. It's very close to what I'm looking for, but the polygon count is unacceptable, this object is so huge that I can't think how to manage it with 3D Studio MAX (I would like to make bones and check it for animation purposes).

Is there a way to obtain a good body shape using ZSpheres and low-poly skinning? How did the models on the ZBrush web page was generated? Is there a tutorial?

If you use adaptive skinning you need to make sure you don't have any ZSpheres intersecting with each other. That's one way of getting a lower polygon count.

You may also want to try the "Optimize" slider in the deformation menu or the resolution options in the "Make Unified Skin" menu.

That's a really nice arm, by the way.

Shame about the poly count, but that is impressive modelling. :tu: :tu: :tu:

I thank you all for the helpful comments and hints about my arm model. Therefore, I can't have access to ZBrush every day, since I can use it only infrequently, when I go visit to a friend's graphics studio. I do really hope to purchase a personal copy soon, in the meantime I will stay here reading your interesting posts on this astounding new program.
