Another little experiment in the use of the spray stroke with the single layer brush. The last nebula I painted (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=007087) took the better part of an hour; this one took about 2 minutes including applying the shading enhancer. I don't think it's better, but it sure was faster!

Starfield created in Universe and imported as a texture. Craft from a downloaded mesh (probably from 3D Café) textured and lit in ZBrush. Total production time about 15 minutes. Image quality has suffered a bit from reduction in size from 1280x1024 and JPEG compression to get under the Forum upload limit.

Hey, Flycatcher...I remember when you were posting the space pictures a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted to say at that time that you were going to flip over the spray stroke in 1.5, since it is so fast to do stars and clouds, etc. But I didn't say anything because I know you worked so hard to get the effects you did, but now that you've had a chance to do 1.5, what do you think?

Thank you for your generous comments on this simple little exercise, guys.

Slosh: Yes, this is the first thing I thought of - even as I painted that earlier nebula picture - how much easier it would have been given a spray brush. So much of the time taken on the earlier one was spent on getting to this point just using alphas and the various adjustment brushes. The few extras touches I applied to the earlier work could easily have been replicated here with a few more minutes work.
