Since it appears that the new version of Zbrush will
make a lot of information in the tutorial books and dvd's
worthless, permit me to remind you all of an upcoming book.
You may go to Amazon.com for details.
Unleasing Zbrush[Paperback]
By: Matthew Yetter

To those of you who don't know the author's name is an alias
for Aurick.
As well as supporting him, it appears to be one of the first things
to appear.

( he promised me 10% off for this thread:D )

No, it's a dog-walking manual. ;)

Actually it's a cookbook, zbrush salad is the specialty.
Since it was postponed at the same time that the release
of zbrush 3 was, imagine it is all about zbrush 3.
It has not been released yet.
But any book written about this program, by this individual has
to be a "must have".
If you don't buy the book, he won't answer your questions.:D

"Must Have" keep those words in head and keep repeating it all over again till august when we hope the book releases.

Well it doesn't say Zbrush3 anywhere, so it's a valid question. Is this book about Zbrush2 or 3? If it's 3 I'll buy it. :)

For the life of me, I dont understand the level of snarkiness coming from some of the entrenched forum members towards new members and people new to z3 (which is everyone except beta testers), being demonstrated here in the last couple days.

Aurick had this book, or something like it announced well back in the z2 days, and it doesnt specify itself being about Z3. So "Is it about Z3" (as opposed to z2) is a completely legit question, and even if it wasnt, you dont do your favourite software package any good by being hostile or flippant to people with questions...any more than Jason Belac was doing by yelling at people for daring to turn of the intro screen and falling prey to the bug there.

If the onslaught of new users and people not as savy about all things Z3 as yourselves is wearing you down, take a break from the boards for a while.

Not a dog-walking manual?

edit:more responses, longer thread stays on top, more books sold.
no sarcasm (much) intended

If I had labeled the thread free stuff 2, more would have viewed.
Since you have to actually buy the thing....

All of the latest ZBrush tools and features are covered and the accompanying CD-Rom features all source files and the most current ZBrush demo

If my comment appears to be snarky then I apologise, it was only a poor attempt at humour. A quick glance at my other posts over the last couple of days will show that I've spent quite a lot of time helping those new to ZBrush 3.

Can you get shots for snarky?

Marcus, posts to threads such as the ones I start
are for the soul purpose of not being serious.
AND if we happen to sell books during the conflict.....

Years ago the best way to sell a book was to have someone complain
about it.
Now we do it indirectly by having members kick the s--t out of each
other in threads talking about the book.

Keep fighting guys, keep the thread active.
If this continues I want 15%

Edit: since on more than one occasion have been the recipient of you
generous help, I can vouch for your extreme kindness and generousity.

Now I get 10% from you.

Cmon.... Who would be so back lit and publish a V2 book month after the V3 came out???
The question deserves the answer given including congenial leg pulling.

PS: Stop being so negative Bingo. Relax, we're all here for the fun. Your comments are always so abrasive for no apparent reason. Cheer up!

I was pretty damn sure it would be about Z3, but when I saw no specification and then the optional bundle with a much older Glen Southern book... it seemed worth asking... and I didn't notice how far from release it was, either

I'll be sure to get it though... looking forward to not-just-another-sculpting-video... I just hope I'll remember it come August

While we're plugging books are there any other books/dvds out right now that will help me sculpt with zbrush 3? I'm looking at the wiki stuff but I was wondering if there are any dvd's/books that better cover the new features. I'm a visual person and a noob so it'd be easier for me to see something in motion than looking at screen caps with brief descriptions "do this, then do that, voila a head." :p

You can safely watch Z2 videos as nothing really has changes, just a number of new functions have been added. Those all rely on the Z2 principles. Except for a real speed improvement and a significantly better memory management (magic!) you will not feel the new core. New Brushes are pretty much self explanatory and the tricky new functions are reasonably well documented on the .info website.

Just grab what you can get and you will not be wasting your time!

Happy ZBrushing!

Any that you would specifically recommend? And is there a good store to pick up these DVDs at? I'll go out and buy books/dvds now if you have some recommendations :)

SalmonGod

I did not truly understand zbrush until I watched Meats Meier's "Intro to ZBrush" DVD from Gnomon... that video was like a paradigm shift for me... he really got across the concept behind the 2d and 3d interaction that makes ZBrush so powerful and I "got it"... you wont really feel zbrush until you acquire this fundamental understanding, and then you'll be coming up with your own tricks to accomplish everything

he's putting out another ZBrush DVD soon for v3 so you might want to hang on just a little longer to get that... but I'm sure that his first Intro DVD will be just as valuable now as it was then

SalmonGod,
I think part of the confusion has been caused by the change from the update being 2.5 to 3.0. The publication date of the book has kept being put back too. But rest assured that it will be all about 3.0, and worth getting.

agreed it will be a great asset to zbrush 3 i already preorderd it and talked to aurick about it and he said it would cover everything in zbrush 3 i cant wait!!

Is the book done from the perspective that the readers are familiar with Zbrush, or will it dumb things down for the pretty much new people like me.

I've messed with ZB2 a year or 2 ago, just messing with zspheres and goofing off with the painting. I haven't really done anything with the skulpting until now. I'm sure it's taking me an hour to do something someone else can get done in 60 seconds but whatever haha.

my guess would be the dog ate Auricks manuscript so he is in detention.....seriously...my guess is the book will be awaiting the Z3 demo version to come out. It was a bit of a wait for the Z2 demo after Z2 came out so would imagine the same for Z3....plus am sure the folks at Pixologic would like to breathe now.

Too many programs, too little time.
Was given Photoshop CS3 extended.
Have a subsciption to Lynda. com where I am trying
to learn that.
Now this......
I find myself being guilty of what I hate to see others doing
Opening a program, not reading the material, trying things
and then annoying others with stupid questions that I should
have researched myself.
When I come here ( lower basement level of zbrush central) I have
too much fun and waste too much time.
If I catch a plane to Tibet and climb the mountain and see the sage,
the rake brush should appear.:D
If the planes to Tibet are full, there is always Brooklyn.

edit; have to keep this thread going, it's Aurick's 401k money.

hell man.....latest news flash......the yeti have closed off the passes to the nowhere man. He could only teach you what no one can....so why climb up there? He don't don't know either....Mr. Alon has been too busy to update him anyways.

you aren't climbing a different mountain than the rest of us "newbs"....so why not stop and have a cuppa with us and share....we will do the same....and hopefully we help another nut like us get further quicker than we did.....that is the zb joy..create....learn...create....share.....watch your children out do you.....learn create share....

ps....no one nows it yet but I have the dm hostage. he made the mistake of come to chi-town. having known this i created a zimage in his image, exported it out and had it made into the coolest balloon ya ever....ooops...he never looked better....went off without a hitch.

if ya need a question answered.....next week....i think between 10am and 2pm should be good....let ya know. ;)

May stay a little longer to try and see how much patience
Aurick has left.:D

Looking forward to Aurick's book.
Wonder who will play him in the movie?

bicc39

Dear Diary;
I figure it like this.
Z3, even to my untrained eye, looks to be fantastic.
If it hasn't been selling well previously, it almost certainly will
now.
What is missing is educational materials to get the best from it.
In the previous versions, we had a few Dvd's and tutorials around.
Some great, some not so great.
We had the manual, which although good ,had to be viewed online
unless you made an effort to buy it ( sorry Pilou, about the paper)
In the next few days/weeks there will be a rush on to get out the first
of the materials to take advantage of the lack and to profit by the
early issue.
(One of the most promising looks to be the DVD by Meats Meir due out
iin mid-june although may be early if you write him and tell him to hurry).
But unless I missed something somewhere, no books.
Nothing to take to the bathroom for a quiet hour of educational
enjoyment
If you go to your local bookstore and ask ,for example ,a book about
Maya, you would have to be a bodybuilder to bring even half of them
home and a millionaire to pay for them ( Thank you, Amazon)

So now we have a golden opportunity to purchase a document by THE MAN!
Unless Pixolator decides to tome one, this is about the best it gets.
And if you are worried about what you will get out of it, Dear Diary, think
of all the answers to all the questions these many years.

Also Dear Diary, taking Mary to dance Friday, hope face clears up!!!

Amazon just updated my delivery date to August 30th on the back-ordered "Unleashing ZBrush"... Matt must be neck deep in ZB3 updating - new interface, new illustrations, new models from ZBrush heavyweights, new videos for the companion CD - fun.

I wonder if the book will include ZB3.1 revisions? Maybe 2nd edition. :D

I would hesitate to guess that they could probably publish this week,
barring cd demo version.
It has been postponed a few times.
Would think that the majority of the work has been done, with the exception
of his dedication to all those who started a thread on his behalf.:D

What's taking so long in releasing it? It can't be that hard to remove the pages about generating normal and displacement maps from the book. I know it can get slightly tricky in indesign or quark...

Maybe there will still be an insert foldout on ZB2 for that!

In all seriousness I look forward to the book and hope to learn quite a few new tricks from it.

What's taking so long in releasing it
In another thread in the main forum there is mention of an update.
That could be one reason.
Would guess the biggest reason and Pilou can take heart here.
The cd may have the demo on it.
Which if you were looking for signs, gives you the approximate date
the demo will be released by.;)
Still when all considerations are in worth the wait.
( Is it ready yet?)
